I do it when I walk around outside in the backyard. I don't know why though, maybe I don't like my feet being dirty. Or maybe I just do it for fun.

I know several people who toe-walk all the time.
I also toe-walk when climbing stairs but as I am NT, I guess this isnt an autistic thing.
Maybe NT actually means "no tip-toes"

I only do this when barefoot and particularly on a hard,non-carpet,surface.I never even notice that I did this until after reading about AS and just happened to notice I was doing it one night. Most the time I am not aware of how I walk......though,my mom used to yell at me to "bend your knees",she said I walked like a Nazi?????

I'm not sure if I toe walk. I don't understand exactly what that means. I do walk funny. I have a very short stride and walk much slower that most other people. I also tend to trip a lot because my right ankle turns under when I'm walking, I think that is due to my hypermobility. But it's annoying.

I like walking on the outer sides of my feet with my toes not touching the ground at all.
I sometimes use my toes on the stairs cos I don't want to stomp loudly up the stairs like most others do.

If your toes curl under, you might have a condition known as "hammertoes." You might want to get it checked out by a podiatrist, because I think it's treatable. I knew a woman who had hammertoes, and I only learned about it because I asked her why she was scrunching her toes up all the time. Turned out she didn't have a choice, they were stuck that way.

I walk on my toes, but I didn't realize this was an autistic trait and I can't remember if I've always walked this way. No one has ever commented on it either.

I haven't heard anything that suggests it is AS-related.

Probably because it's so uncommon, even in the autistic population. It's also sometimes seen in kids with Cerebral Palsy.

I could keep posting links, but I think that's enough.

I'm just curious to see if any other Aspies out there walk on their toes. I didn't know this was a common autistic thing until just recently. I've always walked on my toes. It's more noticeable when I'm barefoot or when I'm walking up steps. I can walk flat when I'm wearing shoes, although I do walk on my toes quite frequently when I wear tennis shoes because I have to wear flat tennis shoes- I can't stand that sole thing inside "normal" tennis shoes. Just wondering if anybody else is a "toe walker." :D

i never did this but my mom(NT though seems OCD sometimes)used to and my sis(who i think is HFA)has done it since she started walking.i just had(have)a weird gait and am extremely clumbsy.

I stand on my toes. I don't walk on them except when walking on stairs.

As I posted in the other thread: I usually just drag my feet through the floor, not so much lifting them completely.

My grandma used to say I walk like I had a corncob up my ass. Students at school said I walked like a serial kiler. Any other way of walking just doesn't feel 'right' and takes too much effort.

I tend to walk on my toes quite a bit, particularly if I'm bare-footed or nervous. I occasionally stand on my toes as well (although that could be because I'm the shortest one in my family, and have to do that to reach anything high up! ), and just generally find it more comfortable than walking normally. :) (I think this might also be because my legs are twisted slightly, so the sides of my feet are naturally angled downwards rather than flat. This also means that I tend to stand on the sides of my feet a lot, and I used to ruin my school shoes by walking normally. :P )

I only walk on my toes when I'm trying to mimic Bangaa.
