As many times as I've seen this brought up on WP I still don't know. I often smell or taste colors but not always. I feel motion when doing arithmetic and calendar calculations. It feels like water flow changing directions in a partially filled water bottle when held horizontally and slowly tilted back and forth ~20 degrees from horizontal. I know that sounds weird but that's the best way I can describe it in words. I feel the momentum after the changes and the resistance before the changes and it feels very good, probably why I do it all the time, it's like ASD crack. Are either of these synesthesia?

I would say I have a very mild form of it. Certain letters and numerals have colors to me, but not all.

It definitely sounds like it could be, I've never heard of vestibular movement being tied to other senses, but it certainly sounds interesting.

I get a cool sensation on my arms whenever I witness acts of worship--I used to get it when I felt inspired to write poetry, or felt worshipful myself. Relaxation brings a cool sensation on my tongue. I'm not sure if this is synesthesia. Does emotional-tactile synesthesia exist?

I don't think calculations would be considered senses. I don't feel physical motion, it's like an amputee that feels a phantom itch- you feel this sensation but it's not associated with something that physically exists. If that makes any sense. I did see a HFA calendar calculator who described a feeling of shifting but not the same way I describe it. Still, I could definitely relate to what he was saying. Just not sure that it's synesthesia.

I have ticker tape synesthesia, words and textures, a bunch of visual-tactile stuff going on ... and, Rascal, I have described feeling my thoughts using a partial filled water balloon and gently rotating it.

Is it like ASD crack for you too?

Is it a mind's-eye sort of visualization?

As for me, I don't think I have synesthesia.

I'm excited because it happens with Spanish with me, but now I'm getting to the point in Hebrew where I'm beginning to see words in Hebrew with Hebrew letters going the right direction for Hebrew! This is a big deal. :D :D :D

Awesome! :D I find it so bizarre, yet fascinating, that you and I develop this for foreign languages. I guess the brain pathways really do react the same way, even to the point of the "ticker tape" phenomenon. This is why I have difficulty understanding a lot of spoken Spanish- if the words go too fast for me to parse apart and "see", I just get lost.

Is there any known case of someone having this and also having dyslexia?
Just wondering...!

I also have synethesia. Colours have certain tastes, feelings have certain colours and so on.
But I don't have it very strong though.

I have ticker-tape, and I see music, words, numbers, and units of time as colors. A few smells have shapes and colors, but not all. I also see the calendar year as a shape. Also, I don't know if this counts, but every time I hear a loud noise I feel as if some sort of object appears in my mouth and then vanishes (this one in particular weirds me out a bit). I feel bad for people who don't have it- I never realized as a child that everyone didn't see the world this way- but things must seem so dull and lifeless without it.

I see words and sheet music - and the symbols morph to where the words expand or change their meanings, almost like a game or enhancement - sometimes so distracting. The music does something a little different that's really hard to explain but it's not like anything magical. I stay within the boundaries of language and song.

I often wonder about this. I didn't always know how to read words or music so this is something that developed as I learned these things, right? What's with that? Why couldn't I have developed something more useful? ...like understanding social cues... I wouldn't mind such an affinity with something more logical or productive, like math, but numbers affect me emotionally and not often in a good way.

Did my mind do this for me because I was not satisfied (or bored) with life as presented? Too bad my parents were clueless. Everyone was back in the 60's, but now, looking back, I can see how educated and informed parents could really turn this around for their unique children in the future.

Well, there's two types - associative and projective.

I have associative - I don't literally see the words out in front of me. So, yes, like you said.
Projective would be just that.

Ticker-tapers, I have to know- did this help at all in spelling contests? Haha. I would just think if you saw the word pop up when the teacher announced it, you'd have an internal cheat-sheet.

Also- I would love to know those that taste words what my name "tastes" like to you. Shayna pronounced Shay-na. Or what color it is? Haha. I don't mean to be annoying but synethesia fascinates me and I am curious. Even though I know it presents differently in each person. Anyways....

For me it tastes creamy with sparkles. Colour is cream-white.
For me colours and taste always match a bit in some way.
