My husband is so fed-up with me doing this that he just walks out of the room whilst I'm in mid-monologue!

Semantic and pragmatic language deficits and/or aphasia (i.e. word-finding problems) are possible reasons....

Pragmatics:
Not knowing which language format to use/how much to say/which words will be best understood, I may say more than I need to.

Semantics/Aphasia:
If I am unable to think of or simply don't know the word(s) for something, I might try to describe it instead.

Not knowing quite what the words I'm using mean, I may over-explain myself to try and make up for word-choice errors.

If you would like an exemplary sample of verbosity, assuredly, you ought to peruse the annals of Romanticism and Victorian era literature, for example, illustrious authors such as Charles Dickens and William Blake. Or, if fantasy strikes your fancy, you should analyze the belletristic wanderings of the extravagant George MacDonald.

Quite strangely, that was rather concise...hmmm....

By concise I believe you are saying that sometimes a person on WP posts a "lengthy post" and you prefer a short and to the point posting. Am I correct in this assumption? I can see your point in that when I read through a thread if one post is a really lengthy post and I do not have a lot of time then I may skip reading the lengthy post.

I don't like reading long posts myself because it's really tiring. I usually skip long posts though I feel a bit bad for the people who spent time for writing them. I'm a very slow reader and it requires a lot of time and effort to read a long post.

I can't really judge whether a post is long for a good reason or it is simply rambling unnecessarily.

I am overly precise. I'm not good at summing up anything, because I feel the details are much too important to skip over, and I assume everyone is as interested in them as I am. ; w ;

I thought people would be amused. I can't help but be concise. When people are talking to me, I often keep on replying monosyllabically even when I want to say more. I find conversations tiring but they do serve their purpose.

You talk about books in a fascinating fashion.

Indeed you are correct in your assumption but I won't labour the point, as I didn't notice how strongly some people feel about their way of writing.

This is exactly my issue, but I have never been able to compile it into an understandable format such as this.

I usually have issues answering yes/no questions with merely a yes or a no because I feel that leaves out a lot of relevant information. A friend of mine says I use that to make excuses even when excuses are not required and my gf (she is taking a masters in psych, both a blessing and a curse because of what she THINK she knows) says is a sort of pedantic self-defence mechanism.

Same here, if you notice my posts they are hardly a few sentences, I skim over paragraphs most of the time and I feel bad for people who put a lot of energy in to writing them. It would take to long to write more then a few lines because I always edit things into oblivion. It is frustrating.

I am a rambler. I can't seem to help it. My husband will ask if we can talk about something else and that he is bored of the subject. Well at least I didn't ramble here.

i have no objection to the wordy, but just the same i'm not as good as i used to, at plowing through wholesale verbiage to get to the point. i wish i could be better at it because there are hurting people who are putting their hearts and energy into writing these communications, and they deserve to be heard, every single one of them.

I love them. Probably more than most else in the world.
