Yes they do! They ask where are u from because I can't place your accent. Problem is, I pick up accents really easily, so I start talking like whoever I'm around a lot. I hav to consciously work against this. So when I lived in the country, I spoke kind of "southern." When I was learning swedish, my english pronunciation changed dramatically and people thought I was from a foreign country. That combined with my formal use of language and you can get the idea. And when I dated a guy from boston....yup boston accent. Lol. At this point, my accent is a weird mix, and I just try to talk as "normal" as possible.

When I'm out of state people say I have an accent, and I actually do have a very strong Michigan accent.

I tend to mimic accents as well, though it usually doesnt last very long at all after i stop talking to the person. There are some words though (not many) that I say in an accent and dont hear it myself.
