Can't choose from fast food menus
I took myself and my daughters to KFC, I get so stressed by the menu choices, I can't imagine what they are, I get into a mental panic and I always end up ordering us the same thing because I don't know what else to choose.
It's like my brain can't focus because there is this brightly lit display of colours, with so much stuff, I feel enormous pressure from the person at the till waiting for me to say what I want so I just end up choosing the same thing every time because I can't make a different choice, it's too much information.
This happens to me all the time. I am actually better with changing things up a bit at KFC and Subway, but most everywhere else I default to the same thing, or the same small list of things. A big problem is just not knowing if I will like something or not, so I buy the familiar orders.
This is me, I wonder what ingredents are used and if I will like it or not as i'm very sensitive to textures/taste etc so I pass over meny things becouse not being able to eat or worse gaging in public is very embarrising and a waste. Everyone knows to just order chicken and fries for me and at the fast food joints I have my standbys like wendy's its combo #1 with just ketchup and a diet coke(its amazing how often they mess up this order and I end up scrapeing chease off and applying more ketchup to cover). Hard part is to try to work coupons into the deal as I sometimes have to bend a little. As a rule I try to avoid going to these places alone as I do get stressed out from the atmosphere and odd social interaction of a fast food joint.

This response makes no sense. This thread is about not being able to order different items while at a fast food restaurant, not about "only being able to eat fast food."
Yeah, I always feel rushed at a restaurant. I used to be able to go into a fast food restaurant and lean against the back wall of the ordering area and let everyone else pass me up as I tried to figure out what I wanted. If I get in line before I know what I want I end up panicking and just pick a random number off the board because I dont know if someone will get mad at me if I take too long or not. These days they are building the new fast food places much smaller and there is nowhere to stand to get out of the way if your not ready.
Of course, just even picking a place to eat takes me hours sometimes. I can be starving, and I cant make my mind up for hours, so I get hungrier and hungrier, end up getting a headache, and getting upset about not being able to figure out where I want to go.

LOL My response makes perfect sense. It is providing a solution to the OPs problem and helping to provide a healthier option for him and his kids (plenty of evidence that a healthy diet helps auties and aspies). I think posters on this forum need to be a bit more proactive about giving people suggestions on how to solve their problems instead of just saying "Oh I have that too!"
