...Basically , it's something I want to do before I die .
And not " going to night school/community college " or " I hear they have FREE! online classes nowadys " but , basically , what I* didn't have when I was teenage/slightly older .
I'm crying/tearing up now .
I mean , I can accept the " Oh , no ! First you have to prove you are worthy of ' real college ' by doing well at night school/community college..." - Just like my mother , in 1978 , going " Oh , no ! First you have to prove you DESERVE to go away to college ! " , I can remember those words (or similar) like they were yesterday...If I did four years starting this Sept. (which I am all but absolutely guarenteed NOT to do , unless sweepstakes-level money/some really nice person/s come my way) , I'd be 57 then??...Maybe I could be a Peace Corps volunteer then ?
Yeah , yeah , " things you're supposed to do when you're younger " . So , I'm still " young " then ! !! !! !! !!
I haven't passed through those experiences then and , once I have , as with other things that I find that I , more or less " ritualistically " , have to do before I can move on , then I can move on to something else...Or , anyway , count down to the big dirt nap , if nothing else . ( Ooooh , " hip " , eh ????? )

i guess i've resigned myself to the fact that this lifetime is a fallow one, and the next lifetime is where i will get to try again with a better foot forward.

I can soo relate to what y'all are talking about. When I was a kid I thought I just had a character flaw that made me unlikeable and that I would figure it all out. I had images of proms and graduations and weddings and jobs (all revolving around my interest--clothes).

None of that came to pass. I graduated, but no cap and gown. The school I went to didn't have proms and stuff (it was a small fine arts school), I had no father to pay for a wedding so I got married the first time in this embarrassingly tacky homemade thing; the 2nd time I went to the courthouse on my lunch break, then went back to work. College took 10 years and graduating was kind of anti-climactic. I had a double major for most of the time, but I just gave up and changed one of my majors to a minor and Voila!--I was done.

My job would be fantastic if it was just me, but I'm the sole provider for my family now and so poor that we're almost literally one flat tire away from the streets.

at least you have a nice professional-type job and a college degree, that is way ahead of me, who just takes up space. you have real gumption, which is a necessary skill for being productive in this world and not just taking up space.

The space you take up is a pretty cool one. 8) I'm glad it's taken up by you.

and the rest of your post...
It sounds like the story of my life. Except that I don't have the job. Funny how no one will believe you can be unemployed with a degree, as though it's some kind of guarantee.

Notice to friends of “ASS-P”

He is now in jail.

He said he was picked up on Thursday with all his stuff dumped by the cops (or they said they would). He also needs money to be put on his books.
They did not offer him a free phone call, by the way…

He may be in for a week or two, he suggested, because he hopes to get some medical care there---optimistic guy!

He was supposed to go to court Monday or Tuesday morning, I don’t know how that went, and I think his next court date is Friday.

I found a snail-mail address. Please let me know if anyone wants it. I'm sure he would like to hear from people.
Don't bother sending a link, as I doubt that he has access to a computer right now.

Another way to send him a message would be to post it here and I can cut-and-paste it to what I send him.

Why did he get arrested? Sure, PM me and I can drop him a line. I don't know him but it sounds like he needs some kindness right now.

How did he get in touch with you to tell you? Or are ya'll offline friends?

He told one friend who passed it on to a handful of others. No, I've never met him in-person. I'm just been following his adventures for a few years.

Same here.
I haven't heard anything at all since my one message from "Robert" last week.
Maybe something interesting will happen in court on Friday.
