Not really, my fellow Celt! (Cymro wyf fi!)

I'm unaware of any published work on the impact of autism on personality type, but my own observation (based on a very small sample) is that autistic people can in theory be of any personality type, but that the impact of autism seems to impede the autistic person from fully accessing the strengths of some aspects of his/her personality.

For example I am an Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiver (INTP). Introversion and Thinking fit comfortably with my autistic nature, but the development of my big-picture iNtuition and go-with-the-flow Perceiving have been hampered by my aspie focus on fine details and my need for routine and structure. So I am very obviously and comfortably an Introverted Thinking, but much less evidently an iNtuitive Perceiver.

So no, one can't describe any one personality type as a 'subset' of Neurotypical or Autistic nature.

Thanks for your explanations, ChrisP! Now any word of advice on how to cope with ESFJs? I can't get rid of them as they're family. And ESFJs take everything personally, are easily hurt. If I disagreed with something they said it goes quickly from "you have a different opinion - you look down on me - you don't care about me at all - you will leave me to die on the street someday and not help...etc." And once they're in that negative mentality there's no way to talk them out of it quickly, no matter what nice things I say. It'll be at least another hour's effort to get them back into OK mood. BTW I am a lot smarter than everyone else in the family and they all know that, so maybe they have some inferiority complex?

I really don't understand how they can be so popular and have so many friends. Maybe their friends are all nicer than me and never disagree with them? Maybe they all have a lot more tact? Or maybe my relatives treat their friends politely and treat me like crap because I'm family and they know I can't get rid of them?

That's a good question - I've a busy morning, but will ponder your question and return to it later. Hope you don't have such an encounter ahead of you this morning!

please do not generalise about all people with a certain Myers-Brigg's personality type.

some people on this forum have that personality type and do not deserve to read that (one of whom posted in the thread). on WrongPlanet we strive to create an inclusive environment where people of all types will feel welcome.
