Thanks, I understand what you meant now.

I think the discrepancy between the numbers of posters and the voters is simply because it's easy to vote but posting a message requires a bit more effort. I myself sometimes vote but can't be bothered to post a message. I actually came back from work at 10pm and voted and posted after that. I'm in Australia.

Which part? I did jump around a bit in that post.

1. I was surprised we had so many WPers click "full-time" in the roughly 7 hours the thread has been on WP. First of all become many of our posters are un/underemployed, and second because most of those 7 hours were traditional working hours in the United States, which is the largest pool of WP posters.

2. I did'nt want anyone saying I was accusing our "full-time" posters of slacking at work.

3. I have always been curious as to why so many WPers are willing to answer a poll, but may not want to post in a given thread. I would guess that the reasons to not post in a given thread depend on time, interest in a topic, etc. etc.

I'm not sure if I explained myself properly.

Well I am on the European side of the pond and we are five hours ahead of the United States East Coast.

I never believed the 80 to 90% of us being unemployed.

People with Aspergers in employment might struggle on for years and never figure out what they have.

I was in one job for 14 years and it was a living hell at times but it was not until it closed down I put things together.

So I suspect there are many people with Aspergers working away that never find the likes of this site or get counted in polls.

As regards not posting in threads speaking for myself I usually do not come here to say something I come here to read.

Well without sounding like a broken record I apparently can't have Aspergers since I am able to work full time. To answer the question I work at the low end of full time (35 hr/wk) at a ridiculously easy job where I am pretty much left alone all day and STILL find it hard! I once worked 45 hrs a week and it was pure torture for me.

I've had temporary part-time retail jobs in between periods of unemployment.
When I am employed the people I work with say they are impressed with how hard I work and I do the job well. But I don't get kept on even when there are openings.

But the downside of working in retail is I get mentally and physically exhausted and once a job finishes it usually takes me weeks to recover.

Rhetorical question, are people afraid to say in their post they work full time fearing others here may think they are not on the spectrum?

I'd hope that would'nt be the case....but you're right.

Considering how many people I've worked with that would meet at least 5 or more of the (old) 9 critera......

2 part time jobs for now & may add a 3rd for the time being since it was offered to me be a former employer and my 2 jobs currently don't add up to 1 full time job at the moment.

Life will change in a matter of weeks when I have a car again and that opens up all kinds of options for different jobs - then hopefully something better paying & full time, with the possibility of a part time job on top. I live in an area of town where public transportation sucks at night so getting around in a timely fashion is a challenge. Also, the jobs I'm most interested in are not accessible via public transit, so having wheels again will dramatically change what I do for work & money.. as well as how much money.

I have put full time as I am working 5 days at the moment but not permanent job. I am semi retired from a good career so I have been very fortunate. However, my career effectively came to and end when I was accused of being 'weird'. I didn't know about the Asperger's then.

I work part-time as a volunteer at a thrift store. It's the first time in my life that I've ever had a "job". Hehe

Your 22 I went into lots of jobs and got fired from them until the age of 23 and I was in that job for years.

Being in a job you hate can be just as bad as not having a job.

I worked part time, but was laid off last summer because business was too slow. It was finally made official after a couple of months of not being scheduled, and they only told me I was laid off so I would quit calling every week. I even removed that number from my cellphone so I don't accidentally butt dial my former workplace. It was a good thing I did so since when I got my new phone, I saw how easily you can butt dial someone.

Right, what i have is aspergers syndrome, which means that i cant do the same things that everyone else can do.
Confusion, puzzlement, and general misunderstanding settles in, because of my general mistrust in general
safetly guidelines that should be carried out in every workplace, and because employers just dont seem to gauge the appropriate time
or training needed to improve a persons suitability for whichever role an employee is thrust into. when i work, i consider myself to be fit and able
for any task im given. however, if the instructions are limited or not step by step, in a way that suits me, then there will be a no go attitude to work.
this was a prime example of people who seem to show no respect and tend to veer towards discrimination in the place of where work should be work
and nothing else. it would be fair to suggest i prefer working alone, whether that be in a basic office environment, or mountaineering up to everest and back.
im very flexible and everything in my curriculum vitae is true and up to date as far as performance goes, however, i wont base everything on what ive done and
thats it. ive far more potential than just a couple of weeks in a work environment. id rather be doing some work, than nothing at all.
when i say upgrade, i mean if i learn something i'll add that to my c.v. i'll probably be suited to either a one to one work environment, or sole work, meaning alone.

Getting a proper job is one of the last three things to do on my 'things I should do list' I made when I turned 18. The other two are learn another language and learn a musical instrument, I have not done either of those cause I can never decide on which one to learn.

AS for getting a proper job, I'm both unlucky and not very good at interviews. Ive sent off tens of thousands of resumes over that last decade and a bit and have gone through several employment agencies that specialize in disability employment, all of witch have given up on me because I wont have a bar of their 'supported wage programs'. If minimum wage is just over $15 an hour I will be buggered if I will work for $4 an hour.

As for interviews, when I get them, I tend not to do good. Ive done the interview training where they teach you how to play the game but when it comes to the kick off, I struggle. I have a bit of selective mutism so sometimes I go to talk in an interview and nothing comes out exept maybe a slight whisper. Other times, if I have to wait in a waiting area before an interview, by the time it is my turn I'm a sweaty nauseous wreak of a man, once I was so nervous I threw up on the guys shoes, panicked and punched the guy right in the face. I did not get that job.

I do get the odd job, like land scaping someones yard or building something for someone but they are fairly irregular. What I really need is a job fairy that will come at night and sprinkle magical job dust on me while I sleep, then when I wake up I have a job.
