I had a friend who had a 5-yr old daughter and they were without electricity for an extended time due to Hurricane Sandy. He called asking if I could accommodate and I almost flew into a panic attack. I like the guy but he's a bit neurotic and is an energy drainer. I felt like a horrible person as I wound up putting a lot of effort into looking into alternatives for him. Luckily he found another place to stay but I seriously felt like a horrible, selfish person because I would not have been able to keep my sanity if he were to have stayed with us, as we were also affected by the hurricane but our electricity came on sooner than his did.

I guess one of the two. State nicely at the beginning that things have to be in a certain way and they have to strictly adhere to the rules. Or else, don't say anything and endure the discomfort until they are finally gone.

I once was asked by a "friend" if I would be too uncomfortable if she stayed at my place because she was being kicked out of her rented place. I honestly told her she could stay till she found a new place, but it would be very uncomfortable for me to have someone else at my place. She decided not to stay at my place for whatever reason. I felt bad, but I just wanted to be honest.

When I was younger, I was not honest and made up excuses but now I try to say I have a problem with it. In the long run, I think it helps everyone to know where I stand.

I don't even like anyone stepping in for a few minutes, let alone staying overnight. As a reasonable member of society, I have to tolerate guests now & then, but I would prefer never to have to tolerate guests.
