I had to take acting lessons to figure that one out.

Literally, I needed instruction and coaching on how to socialize, but there were no "Finishing Schools" where a man could go and learn these things.

If people think that I'm an opinionated, judgmental jackass now, they should have seen me before acting school.

To add:

* That Aspies are superior to NTs. No group is better than the other. We all have things to share and to mutually learn from.

* All NTs are spiteful and mean

* That learning social skills means that you have to be entirely fake. I've learned that you can still retain your personality, but going through some basic motions that people expect allows them to become comfortable around you. It's all about crafting a balance between what another person expects from you and who you really are.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

That AS is the reason they can't do _______.

IMO, too many people use it as a copout vs. just believing in themselves that they can do something and then working hard at it until they've done it.

Good ol' Henry Ford quote sums it up nicely: "Whether you think you can, or you can't, you're right."

All NTs are ____________________.

There are very few words that fit that box. "Human" is the most obvious and least controversial.

Thanks for my first big laugh of the week.

To continue......

-Females with Aspergers have an easier time dating and just generally have life handed to them on a silver platter.

-Having no social skills means no one likes you, or will ever like you.

-Aspergers is related to completely random things, such as how long your toes are, or if you like the color yellow.

-That a bunch of anonymous people on an online forum can correctly diagnose/undiagnose a person with autism.

-If you don't have a job, or can't live on your own, you haven't tried hard enough. If you have a job and CAN live on your own, then you haven't actually worked for it and have had it handed to you.

-Aspergers is just a "personality type."

Not much to add - I agree with most of X-Files Geek and Fnord's lists and they covered a lot.

- That all aspies are gifted or geniuses.

- That all apies have special talents that normal people don't have.

- That all aspies are good with technology and math.

- Asperger's is just a different way of thinking and not a disorder.

# Aspies never lie or are bad at lying
# Aspies are always innocent, child-like victims of evil NT conniving
# Aspies are always geeks who like video games and anime
# Aspies are visual thinkers
# You can't have Asperger's and like Autism Speaks
# With aspies, affective empathy is fully normal, but they sometimes struggle with cognitive empathy (I think it can just as easily be the opposite, or a problem with both)

* Aspies can't be racists and never judge people on superficial characteristics.
*If an aspie does something offensive or wrong he/she must not know what he/she is doing. Often we really don't know but some people seem to believe we're like noble savages who never knowingly deceive or do anything wrong.
*Aspies don't read fiction or watch T.V. (except maybe anime and the Big Bang Theory).

The only issue with that is AS wouldn't be a diagnoses if it was not disabling in any way, therefore it is very possible ones AS symptoms might prevent them from doing some things. Obviously AS shouldn't be used an excuse never to do anything at all or to be a total a** to people, but it can certainly be a barrier and a factor as to why someone might not be able to do some things.

So not so sure its necessarily a myth, I think its more of a myth that aspergers cannot impair ones abilities at all.

Finally, some intelligent thread here!

My observations (sorry if I insult some of you, but this is the truth), not exactly myths, but some common stupidly looking traits (I also had/have some of the traits, but I know they are bad):
 the need to put all Aspie-scores in the signature (Why? To show how severely you are affected or how intelligent you are?).
 the need to excuse yourself if you score fairly high on emotion-related test ("I do well on tests, but I'm bad at it in real life").
 relating every single trait to AS, even if it's more related to, for example, OCD or it's a common trait that's just a little more common among Aspies. Sure, the combination of traits can be AS, but still.

That's why I like categories other than "General" more, because we don't always talk about AS there and relate everything to it.

I agree with most of your list, but this one is something a large number of NTs also believe. "Empathy" is often used as a synonym for "compassion." It's not a thing that just autistic people think.
