Some people over-complicate things to make them feel smarter. It doesn't work as well as they think it does.

Simplicity can be quite elegant.

I can't do anything else anyway as the other way of talking seems very contrived to create a particualr effect and I can't do it;
it seems fake

it's the use of a persona - my persona is the real me, not a construction to appeal socially to others

If you try and dig behind most peoples' persona they don't tend to like it

Out of curiosity, what do you mean as the "other way of talking"? Is it verbosity, or something else entirely?

I suppose that is due to what ever reason they choose to wear the false persona in the first place.

It's hard to define but it means the person is doing more than just saying what they think about a topic; they are trying to convey their personality as well in a sort of way they hope will make others connect with them and accept them socially ie implying how cool they are or how popular and they use certain styles of talking and certain words and phrases to do this. It's called having a persona I'd say. Most people have one. I suppose if anything I do have a persona for use on forums - it's more polite and less cyncial and negative (believe it or not lol) than I can be. I don't seek to make a social connection more than I want to get my message across though, that's the main difference I'd say.

I don't think it's necessarily false - it seems to be the norm, it just seems false to me as I don't have one or not to the same extent.

You could call it form over content I suppose. Content over form people like me are often thought to be boring by the form over content types - I think they seek entertainment over knowledge or more of a balance of both. I'm gettiing confused now as I seek both too if I'm honest but not at the expense of content.

I would think ASD people tend to be more content over form generally. A lot of people on here have varying levels of social anxiety, which may have led some of them to construct a "persona" as a social defense mechanism.

Also I fail to see have the way you communicate online is any more simplistic than others. You don't seem limited conceptually or in terms of vocabulary.

If it makes you feel better I sometimes feel like a bit of an outsider here and I am an aspie (amongst other things).

In my opinion, it's social sophistication that I lack, not intellectual

Most people on wrongplanet lack social sophistication to some degree or another. You could argue that many wouldn't be on here if they didn't, or weren't perceived to, have social short comings.

May I ask why you felt that you did'nt fit in? I've heard simular statements from different perspectives before, and I'm always curious on this issue.

I don't know. I felt like a mess, while they seemed all clean and dressed up and organized. I had just had a major psychotic break in my early teen years and I also had stigma related to that and also feeling that it set me apart from the others. From middle school on, I was always a mediocre student while at the same time I could see things going on in social interactions others with Asperger's couldn't seem to and I at times felt almost like a fraud.

Don't we all? I don't remain on WP for informational purposes anymore, but as simplified way to seek rapport with others in what ways I'm able to. Some people are coming for the resource aspect, and others for the community (and most end up with a combination of the two I would guess.) I don't think one outweighs the other at all. :? :?:

I know but it's all degrees isn't it. I just generally feel other people on here have far more in common with each other than I do with them. Sometimes I feel ok to be like that and other times not.

I for one like to find others that feel different. It makes me feel less like the odd one out. Maybe we are odd together but in different ways. If that makes sense.
