I just finished my first year of grad school, and it was the first time in years that I not only had no trouble going to sleep, but went to sleep super early...always before midnight. I was at school from 12-15 hours a day, 5-7 days a week, and often went a month without a day off. I was exhausted.
I'm on summer break now, and the restlessness has already returned. I'm not tired enough to get into bed before 3am, and when I do get in bed, I just toss and turn. Thankfully, I just ordered another bottle of Melatonin, and I'm falling right to sleep when I get into bed. I'm still staying up late, but if I took the Melatonin earlier, I'm sure I'd go to bed sooner.
I highly recommend Melatonin to anyone with AS who is having trouble sleeping...studies have shown that those with autism spectrum disorders produce less melatonin than those without, which is a major causes of sleep problems.
