I think I'm more like this. Sometimes I definitely study people but often I'm too wrapped up in my own thoughts and don't pay enough attention to them.

My girlfriend would be complaining that I stare too much.

All the time and constantly. I love studying and mentally making observations of everyone: all kinds and neurotypes. I study NTs to get a better sense of their conversational flow/what they expect from others, and people with ASD to see patterns in their behavior: both the commonalities and differences.

This misdiagnosis caused me significant stress, which lessened upon finding out the truth about myself from my current and past long-term therapists - that I am an anxious and highly sensitive person but do not have an autism spectrum disorder.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I do this too- especially in airports and studying how people relate to children as that is a special interest of mine. I have also gotten in trouble for staring before. It's a bit better now. People in public I don't know generally look at me weird and then I know to stop.

I like learning psych facts about people (that's what I study, after all!) and then applying them to others in a very scholarly sort of way. I also like to think about how to influence their behaviour or how they might try to influence mine. I guess it stems from my "control freak" tendencies, although I do not crave leadership in casual settings at all (perhaps as a result of trust).
