Imaginary friends have always been a huge part of my life. I'm horrible at creating my own characters so I always have to "borrow" my imaginary friends from some form of media - cartoons/anime, movies, video games, etc. I mostly pretend that my imaginary friends follow me around and go with me wherever I need to go. I also talk to them out loud and even voice their responses. I also like to have physical versions of the characters if possible, especially plush toys. (In fact, my desire to have plush versions of my imaginary friends is what drove me to start sewing, since the characters I am usually into do not tend to have much in the way of merchandise.)

What the OP described, I call prayer or spiritual communion. I pray, conversationally, to all sorts of people, including my late parents, friends, and others.
