My speech is really only affected when I'm highly stressed. My mouth freezes and refuses to produce words, and when I try to force it, all that comes out is stuttered word fragments or noises. When this happens, I get even more stressed, so it becomes even harder to speak, and it's all just a tiring cycle. Under normal circumstances, the only trouble I have with speaking is being heard. I was born premature and so was intubated for many months until I could breathe on my own. The prolonged intubation left me with a scarred larynx, so I sound very quiet and raspy, like I have permanent laryngitis. Because of this, people have a hard time hearing me, and I constantly have to repeat myself, which gets annoying fast.
