I get this sometimes when I pace. Because I'm pacing people will think I'm anxious or that something is wrong with me (like they think I'm upset/annoyed maybe) but I'm usually not.. just I'd have started thinking about something and I'll automatically pace.. it helps me think/visualize. Sometimes it's done if i'm anxious just mostly not. Being interrupted is really annoying especially when someone assumes something is wrong. I do this sometimes long enough to realise I badly need a cigarette so I guess I can do it for an hour but I know I've done it longer in the past when I've really wanted to solve a problem.

Your family know you have Aspergers right? Cause it kinda seems like they're disturbed by this or something from what you said.

I myself also pace. Although for me most people around me are understanding of it.

I can't just sit and stare for too long, I have to be doing something. I can only sit and daydream when on the bus or something because it's moving along, but once it gets caught at traffic lights I lose my daydream and become agitated until it moves off again.

Sometimes I sit and stare before getting out of the bath or getting out of bed, like I'll contemplate. But I've been told that's normal in those sorts of situations.

I usually like to sit in my living room and think, or lay on my bed and just stare out the window and think. It gives me comfort and I relax.

But every time someone catches me thinking, they ask "what are you doing?!" in a weird tone. and they usually ask me to put the TV on or something... (I'm talking about my family)
They think I'm weird and that I should constantly be doing something!-_-
Does anyone else do this?

I can stare at ANYTHING and just think for hours.

I can relate. I'm way into my daydreams and thoughts a lot of the time. But I find putting on music makes me even more likely to get far into daydreams or thoughts. It's like it stimulates it. I've also had people ask me if anything is wrong when I just sit there enjoying my own company and mindscape.
It's not weird for us at all.

Yeah, it's like normal people can't do it without the use of drugs, so they think you must be on drugs if you're doing it.

I do it a lot, if you know me IRL you kind of expect it from me. People are actually surprised if I start talking to them.

Aren't they all on drugs though?

That's not weird at all to me, I can sit and think about things for hours on end myself. If your family know about your Aspergers then perhaps they need to be more understanding.

I sometimes find it helpful to just tell people I'm meditating, and that it helps to focus my mind and ease away any stress. Most people understand Meditation a lot better than they understand the concept of just thinking - and they call us weird!

Making you switch the TV on is just cruel :( there is no torture worse for an Aspie than having to watch mindless TV 8O

Yes, I do this for several hours nearly everyday. It's not so much daydreaming as very high powered thinking.
I've more data in my head than I know what to do with, and I find this power analysis/creative-linking -relaxing and energizing -if that makes sense. After a few hours I'm leaping with energy.
Most people just go ahead and consider me lazy because of this, even though I completely (spastically?) out work them when we are doing things.
I'm also afflicted with a rotating circadian rhythm and hypersomnia, so I try to not feel too badly from the harassment I get for it.
It works for me. =)

How does a rotating circadian rhythm work? I have never heard of that. That seems like it could be very challenging.

I love pacing too. It is very relaxing to me. I used to study for exams while pacing sometimes and it would help me study better. I talk to myself too out loud! :0)

Not every one is on drugs. A lot of people are not even though many are.

That is so interesting. I remember now too that I could study for certain exams better when I was standing than sitting and pacing also made some studying better. I wonder why that is.

when i am sitting down at my computer table, i could not really care less about anything, but when i am standing up (or driving my car) then i take a keen interest in all that happens around me. it is like the world does not matter when i am idle.

Lol this post reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBBQdFSvvTE

I think the main reason people think it's weird is that most people, well, don't think.
