I can't help but pace when I am out in the public.

Yes, when I'm nervous.

I read that Roger Bannister got so nervous before a race he would pace the room thinking about it.

I'm a pacer, but I want to train myself not to pace because it apparently makes people nervous.

I am of the view that "people" would do better to train THEMSELVES not to watch. :P

I pace a lot, but realistically, I haven't met many people who don't.

I have a terrible attention span, and I pace like a caged lion.

LOL h_b  ... and welcome to the club

Definately! I'm always walking about whenever I'm thinking about something deeply, unless I'm lying down on a bed.

Yup! That's me

I do a lot of pacing at times, but I find other ways to help me think as well. Occasionally I will go outside and bounce on my neighbor's trampoline as I think about something, and at the summer camp I work at I tend to walk on the logs laid out to sit on to generate some thoughts. Sometimes I can also think while taking my dog out for a walk, but not as well.

I pace when I listen to music and on the telephone.

I've always paced, particularly when thinking deeply about something, or I am nervous or stressed. It is definitely beyond what people normally do, because I have had comments on it all my life. The usual fall-about-laughing-until-your-sides-ache one (not!) is "We'll have to have that carpet replaced soon!" I've heard that so often now it just isn't that funny anymore.

I pace. I can do back and forth, in circles, sometimes with a sort of "military" turn I learned from a friend decades ago, or very stylized as per "Number Six". and if I pace in a straight line I go for a walk.

When I saw: "pacing" I wondered if someone was enquiring about the NLP practise if pacing wherein a person watches the other person in present conversation and paces their actions and tonalities. I try that pacing too: but I am very poor at it.

Anyone ever heard of deep vein thrombosis? Constant motion is the cure!
