I wish they would have spent a little more time talking about AS, just to bring it out a little bit more. Almost everyone has heard of Autism but Asperger's is never talked about. I don't understand that. Maybe because it's so new but still when is someone going to start bringing that to the public's attention? I mean, the people on WP aren't the only one's that have it and there are so many people that have it and have never heard of it. That's very frustrating to me.
Then, if you have it and someone finds out or you tell someone, the response is always going to be "WTF are you talking about? You don't have no autism...you're too normal".
It's sad that so many people are going to die thinking they were just born losers and never fit in for no reason, it's just how they are. All because they never heard of AS. It almost pisses me off.
Acutally, the doctor (the Indian woman ... I'm sorry I can't recall her name) was about to mention Asperger's -- but Rosie cut her off rather rudely.
The whole show, to me, was really, really offensive. The girl at the end bordered on exploitation, in my opinion. The boy who was "cured" of autism really wasn't, and Rosie saying that Dr. Grandin "came out of autism" was the last straw. You can't "come out" of autism -- we're not in a coma, for Pete's sake!!
Dr. Grandin was very gracious, I thought, in the face of such ignorance.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck was almost as bad ... I think she's an idiot anyway, but at least she wasn't as offensive as O'Donnell.
It would have been better if the doctor, Toni Braxton and Alex just sat together on the stage for the entire hour talking about Autism, Asperger's and how parents can best help their children. Rosie and Elisabeth should have had duct tape over their big mouths.
