There's nothing wrong with being different at all. It's just likely a step of evolution taking place where possible genetics are making life even more complicated and a mystery. What I don't like though is the fact that it's unknown and people saying it's an illness, that an imbalance thought to be problematic has been linked to ability, that you can't been seen later in life as a genius just for the sake of it.

However, the root cause can in fact be transmitted from mother to unborn child, or even person to person via bodily fluids

Comming to body fluids...
I dunno about a single case, that someone got ASD in adulthood.
I just know about a case were someone was dx with temporary autistic like symptoms in adulthood after drug abuse.
