When I first joined WP and learnt about special interests I was actually a bit surprised people don't post more about theirs. I still kind of am. It seems to be an unwritten rule here that you don't talk about your special interest unless asked. :)

As a kid, I was the stereotype of the kid who went on and on and on about my interests. I have countless home videos of me monologuing and quoting movies/tv/books endlessly.

Now, I will only reveal special interests if I am asked specifically about them, and even then I will keep it brief.

I agree.
When I saw the heading I thought that this was a thread for rambling about your special interest:) Because of that I´m now all adrenalin at 02.00 AM and don´t know what to do about it. I can say that I don´t talk about my special interest/s so much nowadays but I certainly did before, especially at parties. I think it was due to me being anxious around a lot of people and the pressure to talk about something, to contribute. This lead to other people actually being aggressive towards me, one time physically. What can I say, I have a really annoying special interest (identity) and other people don´t like to be questioned. I´m thinking "Gosh, I´m really doing this person a favour enlightening them about this because this is really uncomfortable for me, I can feel this other person inside of me and I want to go home, take a bath and get rid of it". It´s just that I forget that we all don´t want the same thing. My basic programming is that everyone is me and what I want everyone wants.
I don´t know if I went a little over board explaining this now but I definitely feel more tranquil. I think that´s the thing- if I do stop myself from saying too much, I´m left with excessive energy.

I've done this before on many occasions. As I've gotten older though, I'm more conscious of it, though I always instinctively want to. I've just gotten to the point where I assume nobody cares, so I don't talk about my interest unless someone brings it up to me.

Fear not! I've created the thread you seek: https://www.wrongplanet.net/postt245025.html

I was going to say something similar only don;t have an SI right now. :( As a child I would go around reciting whole stories and talking about my interests incessantly. Nowadays, I only talk about them if others bring them up but brevity is not my strong suit and once a subject that I know a lot about or am very interested in is broached I tend to get carried away and go into too much detail. My mum lets me know when I do this. She puts her hands to her temples and says in an exaggerated, long suffering tone "too much information!"
