Being exposed to harsh group pressure/bullying where your life depends on it (education/job etc.) is probably the surest path to depression for a person with AS. It can have long-lasting effects, even long after you shared social space with bullies. In some cases it can have permanent, life-long scarring effects - those who will never be able to find joy in life again!

One should be really careful with how long one puts up with such an environment. I now know that from tough experience.
