I know my special areas of interest so well that when I am praised for what I've done, all I can think of is how much better I could be.

Yes I know this feeling, part of it I think is that I can be a perfectionist and I see and know all of the flaws in my work and that's what I focus on and other people see the rest and find that impressive. Also the more I learn about something the more I realise how much I don't know or understand on the topic so people often see me as an expert on a topic where I don't consider myself one.

When it comes to my knowledge of electrical engineering. I get huge praises for it. Even people who have masters degrees and Ph D's in the field are blown away at what I know and do. But the funny thing about it is. I never really put much of a value on it. To me. It feels like if I can do it why can't everyone else to it. It's just a God given talent that I take for granite. I am just naturally good at it. I never had to work or study for it so I can't really appreciate the value of it.

I hope that you're aware that the expression is "take for granted".

Not "take for granite".

You and I said the exact same thing. That's cool.

When I was a child, my writing/story-telling abilities were praised by pretty much everyone. My best friend admitted she was jealous of how good I was, and I won at least one award for it in elementary school.

However, I have never had the same level of passion for writing as I have for artwork. Unfortunately I don't have the natural talent for artwork as I did for writing. Even though my artwork is praised by friends and family (one friend even suggested that I get into illustration), I know that in reality, I'm pretty mediocre at it, and I have been told as much by online critics.
