All Aspie kids should be taught creative skills

Umm... I am not sure who you are addressing... but I will sat this... "I don't know where the hell you get off" assuming that you experience will be the only possible outcome of any endeavor...

I am sorry that it led to ridicule in YOUR life... but it was YOUR life and NOT MY life or someone else's life... so "I don't know where the hell you get off" telling us that we are wrong on this... because I was one of those aspies that found a sense of belonging and community through my art... which runs completely contrary to your experience, I know...

For the record...I have no problems with your account or that you feel that way... but "I don't know where the hell you get off" using a phrase as confrontational and dismissive to another's experiences and opinion as "I don't know where the hell you get off"...

I'm sure it's for the OP. They just responded emotionally because they have personal feelings about it. I think people on this forum are more rude and emotionally reactive than most other forums but it is an autism forum and people have other issues so we can't all just be typing in a polite manner. I don't like it myself but you can't change how people word things, unless your mod powers allow you to.

It is confrontational, I'll give you that.

Idk about teaching a kid parlor tricks to win friends. Arts are a thing to teach all kids of course and I was taught them as far as drawing painting and sculpting and stuff. Most of the ASD kids in was in special ed with and def myself - had motor skills problems. I asked for a magic kit when I was 10 and then had a meltdown because I could not do most of the tricks correctly. I would like to learn the guitar and will prob try but I do not think I will have the dexterity to do it. Like a lot of ppl with asd I am a perfectionist. What I am saying is trying to teach an asd kid to juggle to make friends may just lead to him feeling worse about himself.

Yes, that's what I need too, dexterity. Since I've developed epilepsy I'm a lot more delayed with my movements and kinda shakey. It seems unfair to me because not only does my ADHD get in the way of learning music but I can't use both hands when playing the damn guitar. It's very upsetting to me to be constantly reminded of this when I see professional musicians on the stage too and all I can contribute to the music scene is photographic records from that night.
And then my best friend tells me if I say I can't learn to play music then I'm lazy.

For me, it was not about qoool tricks to win friends, but more like I was doing something I liked in a group of more accepting people (art and music dork kids) with whom I could relate through art and music (special interests in common). Growing up, I was more obsessed with science than art or music, but science was something that I liked to pursue alone and wouldn't have enjoyed doing in a group, but I like art and music both alone and in groups, so this was one of the group activities that I could really do as part of the group.

Aspie kids should be taught creative skills, as well as a lot of other skills. The world's a big place, and I don't think kids are being shown what they can do.

All kids should. I wish i could find the video, it was a british guy i think talking about how school in general kill creativity.

Its actually quite a serious problem, this whole shut up and do what you are told. A huge problem they have in countries like china, korea and japan, is that people cant think outside the box. Was done some tests to solve this, and its rapidly becoming the same in the vestern countries.
