Interesting little video I found about autism on YouTube
THAT particular doctor is a moron and should likely be sweeping floors and cleaning windows somewhere. (Or doing any type of job where he can't negatively affect another human being personally.)
That was a beautiful and sad video. This young man now has ALS and will die soon. He has a beautiful mind and a clear soul.
On the other end of the "spectrum" are the doctors, the experts. I have very few kind words to say about these people. I am indignant toward any man who thinks he can play god over another.
Regarding Wally and the "only Autistics are compassionate," thing -- I think his fantasy should maybe not be taken so literally. Sometimes when we want to think of the future, to comfort ourselves we dream on those grand scales. I don't think he really meant every individual person with Autism is more compassionate than every individual "NT." I think what he meant was more like the Civil Rights movement where the African Americans did band to together to teach compassion and understanding, but not in such a segregated way. It was an African American Movement to be sure, but it included people of many races (well of course in their case they were trying to end segregation). For instance, his parents are not Autistic and he probably doesn't think they need to be taught compassion.
Anyway, having said that, I do agree that some Autistic people have an "NT's are not as good people as we are" attitude, and I find it baffling. I'm guessing in most cases they also don't really mean all people without Autism, but you never know.
And I do think that because of our Autism some of us see a side of society that others don't see or won't see which is hurtful. So in once sense when people say "NTs" aren't as compassionate, they might very well just mean the people that have been cruel to them. I'm just guessing though. Society does often accept cruelty to its members that are at least perceived as being weaker, but not all individuals go along with that. I think that's Wally's point - that society needs to be more understanding, not that each and every person without Autism does. And that because he has experienced the problem first hand (along with many other Autistics), he and they can help people understand and resolve the problem.
Well yeah sorry about that I would of mentioned my opionion earlier but when I heard litlle bee talking about the compassion honestly I never even really noticed that the first time I saw the video all I saw was A man who was underestimated being seen his true ability. What do I think about the part about the compassion and how is mentioned him in the video? Well I didn't think it was talking about all autistics. I think it was talking about how some people use their dark past to be even more compassion to others like before mentioned Martin Luther King Jr. I thought that he meant that we can help people see different points of view and be more compassionate and open minded.I don't believe all autistics are more compassionate but I do think it is more likely.
My aunt had a really dark past and you also had a miscarriage she didn't handle it well and become significantly Mentally ill. While for example my grandmother had to leave Heidelberg when she was little to avoid the Nazis and had father her father in a concentration camp but luckily he escaped.
Anyway After moving to America she had learned English no Rosetta Stone no tutors no books no English as a second language nothing like that and she learned English all on on her own. After I had been put off my mother and father's custody and pretty much labled is a ward of the state. my grandmother went to save me from being in a foster care Where I wouldn't know where my real family was As well as paying for almost everything in my early life. And even though she had many hiccups along the way she managed to take care of me and helped me to be who I am now weather for better for worse.

Ha, I wouldn't worry too much about what any body else says, you have a pretty good head on your shoulders!
Your Grandma sounds like a great lady.
A woman where I work, her father was in Birkenau. It's hard to imagine people going through that, but at least your Grandpa escaped. I think what her father went though really formed who she became also, even though it happened before she was born. She's always very kind to everyone, even when they aren't so kind to her. But she does it really cool, not like she's afraid of them, but like she knows who she is and whatever they do to her can't change who she is. When I talk to her about stuff like that, she always says she learned from her dad.
Anyway, I think that's kind of what Wally was getting at - take cruelty and return kindness and try to spread it. Don't think he was in any way knocking anyone or putting himself in a position of superiority.
