And did you like it?

I'm visiting from the parenting board. One of the posters asked about a specific camp and that got me thinking.

My little Aspie has NO interest in camp. I figure school is stressful enough and he deserves the summers off. Am I looking at this wrong? Would he enjoy it once he got there?

I have some AS traits and I went to camp one year at his age (12 years old). It was okay once I got there but I don't think I enjoyed it all that much and certainly didn't learn anything.

How about you?

TRAUMATIC. was my 9th grade experience. see, camp, for NTs is a place to show off. it's super social. you get rejected really quick and nobody wants to be seen around you for fear of being associated with you. and it is cool to be mean at camp. it was traumatic because when i tried to socialize, when i try to do what other kids were doing, i ended up doiing many socially inappropriate things and i was very sad, depressed, anxious about what i did and how other kids saw me. i was always aware of being alone because everyone else was together and other people noticed that i was always alone - a state of horrific embarassment 24/7. i felt everyone was looking at me all the time. horrible. still recovering from the camp ten years later. but you know what? compared to other camps, this was a very structured, well run, friendly camp. most kids got 800 on the SATs there. so it was me, not them. urgggh.
