Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love - some very interesting scenes shot from Sandler's character's point-of-view that give the audience some insight into what it feels like to experience sensory overload, etc. Mind you - this character is never identified in the script as autistic, but it's pretty obvious to those familiar with autism. I'm not a Sandler fan, but this is a very good depiction of an autistic character.

speaking of adam sandler,what about the waterboy? or was that not a form of autism he was pretending to have?

If I recall the film correctly, I think that character had a broad-spectrum intellectual disability, not necessarily autism.

thanks, coud have sworn had read he was pretending to be autistic in some form, then again perhaps some people have just related to it and felt it was.
his absolute obsession with doing the water and knowing every complex detail about it might have given that impression.

have just thought of another film,a favourite of mine-dead mans shoes, woud strongly recommend watching it,its an english film and not well heard of.
its about a mildly autistic lad,his need to fit in taken advantage of by a gang and it ends up with very bad consequences,its very clever how they made it.

@headhunter,
same here,to this day many of the general public still use it as a yardstick for autism.
mercury rising was just as bad,in the same way.
