Thank you for the cello suites. I can't listen to them right now because I was doing my own composing, so 1) I'm sound-overloaded and 2) listening to anything by Bach makes my own music inconsequential.

Most of the IQ test out there test you for your analytical skills. Most don't test your memory skills at all. I have vary good analytical skills so I always score genius(150-160) range. But if I had my short-term memory tested. I would be in the ret*d(40-60) range. My short-term memory is so bad that if someone told me there name. I would forget it 3 seconds later.

I completely stink at math. If there are any tests having to do with solving math problems I will very likely fail even if I do well in the other tests. :(

I've taken a few, I range from 110 to 130.

... though I never take them seriously. Or sober.

My uncle is also Aspie. He would struggle to complete an IQ test unaided because he has difficulties doing things like reading and counting. Computers are alien to him. Is this because he is stupid?

I'd like to think not. He wasn't able to take advantage of his education, that being, he was raised in a time and place when autistic kids were pretty much f****d unless their parents could afford private, sympathetic tuition. Instead of being helped or being dumped into even the most rudimentary of 'special needs' classes, he was regularly terrorised and assaulted by his teachers.

IQ tests are like porn, it's just mental masturbation to "pictures of productivity". It's not really accomplishing anything which is the whole brag of IQ: "Imma genius so I can accomplish more mental productivity (and presumably more money because I'm presumably more valuable) than you!"

Not much different than imagining hot chicks love sex with you because you're porn surfing.

The most important thing is how everyone automatically assumes that the "creators" of IQ tests are infallible.
Not merely infallible, but never even questioning if they know what they should be attempting, regardless of whether they even achieve it.

Has anyone ever even come up with a good definition for intelligence?? And if not, then how could it possibly be measured?

Most IQ tests that I've seen simply measure how much one thinks like the test's writer thinks he thinks. And even worse, how closely one's life experiences (specific word knowledge, narrow logic, even pop culture knowledge) matches the writer's memories and thoughts on "what's important".
And even worse than that: how well one can regurgitate matching memories in the most similar communication style.

It's all hype, focused on pretend increasing one's social status. How completely Neuro-Typical.

QFT

I wonder how Physarum polycephalum would perform in an IQ test.

I actually agree with you. I think that most people take IQ tests much too seriously.

It feels great, at least for a short while, when the outcome of an IQ test indicates that your IQ is above average but after giving it some thought one can only come to the conclusion that that feeling is actually an ego trip. I think that there are many different forms of intelligence and that the average IQ tests are far too limited and superficial to give a complete picture. The outcome of these tests is by no means objective because it is influenced by many different factors. If you have an off day, either mentally or pysicially your score will probably be less high, if you are overly tired your score will go down as well. There are people who are really smart who never had the opportunity to get a good eduction which will probably mean that they won't get high IQ scores eventhough they are very intelligent and maybe even gifted. Another factor is that IQ tests are geared towards western cultures. Last but not least, you can train yourself to get better at them. A high IQ does not mean that you are going to be succesful when it comes to a career. On the contrary, a high IQ can even become a burden that can easily lead towards failure instead of success without proper guidance.

We humans may think that we are such a smart species but I have some serious doubts about that. This may sound like just another cliche but if we look at the state of the planet and to what we have been doing to each other, other species and even to ourselves for thousands of years there is not much intelligence to be found. We are still too stupid to see that we are not even capable of long term thinking and that we still don't know the rules of cause and effect.

aspies can have any IQ from one point outside of the intelectual disability spectrum or higher, one example of being only one point out of that spectrum and still aspie woud be the UKs infamous george barry [or is it barry george? the jill dando killer].

those of us with classic autism can have from the lowest point to the highest point, but IQ just controls how limited or wide our mental capacity is,its not a sign of inferiority,we dont have the mind of a child, nor does it mean we lack of smarts in individual qualities no matter how many times elitist and insecure individuals like to preach all of this.

people who think they have an intelectual impairment;dont.
those of us who genuinely have and are diagnosed with intelectual disability lack the comparison abilities and social understanding to recognise our limitations nor care about it.

its always high functioning individuals who have a lot of anxiety around IQ tests who think theyre low functioning;because society puts a lot more pressures on them to fit in to NT culture;which they in many cases cannot and thus struggle, and as often is the case many believe their struggles to mean they are low functioning/intelectualy impaired when it isnt the case.

society also creates the belief that IQ equals success, talent and ability, people shoud go watch the special olympics games or go look up the kids of widney high band before ever thinking that.

You look exactly like one of the actors from a tv series called Little Britain.

I think that a lot of people with classic autism are underestimated and that many of them have a perfectly normal IQ. Most of the experts haven't figured out a way to discover and establish that fact. That is all there is to it.

Isn't it just. Reckon we could build a computer out of it.

I took the WAIS as part of my neuropsych assessment. They didn't list score numbers in the report, only percentile. It said I am on the low side of average (37%).

But, for those of us on the autism spectrum it is especially important not to pay attention to iq scores. The usual iq test result for persons on the spectrum is all over the place -some spots very high, some spots very low- which renders the test invalid in so far as its validity as a metric of your cognitive ability. The reason an iq test is often included in psych testing is more to see the distribution of your scores in the various categories and pinpoint areas where you struggle.

I don't have aspergers I have classic autism.

My IQ depends on the test, and mood. I've scored between 55-140. I don't really think IQ tests are all that useful. Especially for people on the spectrum

I have had a very similar experience. :)

I was diagnosed with Aspergers. I was also diagnosed with mixed receptive/expressive language disorder.

Asperger's and mixed receptive-expressive language disorder, seriously? Because add those two up, and it's another name for classic autism. Did your psychologist get paid by the diagnosis, or something?

My psychologist wouldn't even give me a full scale IQ score or percentage and just said it was unreliable because of the score scatter. My VIQ was in the high-average-superior range and PIQ was borderline intellectual disability range. My individual sub-scores ranged from the .04th percentile to the 93rd percentile! I have a specific learning disorder impairing my understanding of spatial relations so some of my PIQ scores were REALLY low. *I was also assessed using WAIS.* I asked to have a full-scale score calculated and later asked my high school guidance counsellor at school if she knew how to calculate it from the sub-scores but both refused.
