IQ tests are like porn, it's just mental masturbation to "pictures of productivity". It's not really accomplishing anything which is the whole brag of IQ: "Imma genius so I can accomplish more mental productivity (and presumably more money because I'm presumably more valuable) than you!"
Not much different than imagining hot chicks love sex with you because you're porn surfing.
The most important thing is how everyone automatically assumes that the "creators" of IQ tests are infallible.
Not merely infallible, but never even questioning if they know what they should be attempting, regardless of whether they even achieve it.
Has anyone ever even come up with a good definition for intelligence?? And if not, then how could it possibly be measured?
Most IQ tests that I've seen simply measure how much one thinks like the test's writer thinks he thinks. And even worse, how closely one's life experiences (specific word knowledge, narrow logic, even pop culture knowledge) matches the writer's memories and thoughts on "what's important".
And even worse than that: how well one can regurgitate matching memories in the most similar communication style.
It's all hype, focused on pretend increasing one's social status. How completely Neuro-Typical.
I actually agree with you. I think that most people take IQ tests much too seriously.
It feels great, at least for a short while, when the outcome of an IQ test indicates that your IQ is above average but after giving it some thought one can only come to the conclusion that that feeling is actually an ego trip. I think that there are many different forms of intelligence and that the average IQ tests are far too limited and superficial to give a complete picture. The outcome of these tests is by no means objective because it is influenced by many different factors. If you have an off day, either mentally or pysicially your score will probably be less high, if you are overly tired your score will go down as well. There are people who are really smart who never had the opportunity to get a good eduction which will probably mean that they won't get high IQ scores eventhough they are very intelligent and maybe even gifted. Another factor is that IQ tests are geared towards western cultures. Last but not least, you can train yourself to get better at them. A high IQ does not mean that you are going to be succesful when it comes to a career. On the contrary, a high IQ can even become a burden that can easily lead towards failure instead of success without proper guidance.
We humans may think that we are such a smart species but I have some serious doubts about that. This may sound like just another cliche but if we look at the state of the planet and to what we have been doing to each other, other species and even to ourselves for thousands of years there is not much intelligence to be found. We are still too stupid to see that we are not even capable of long term thinking and that we still don't know the rules of cause and effect.
