Watching movies/TV episodes 100s of times and listening to the same song 1000s of times is something I've always done. I watched the movie "Arsenic and Old Lace" for over a year. I must have seen it over 150 times, needless to say, I knew it word for word. I've been listening to Stars of the Lid's Artificial Pine Arch Song for several years now, and usually several times a day (there are no words to the music though - just alien music).
Before the world had VCRs, I used to record Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica episodes on audio tape and know 'em word for word.
I've also (by being in the room) seen all of the Everybody Loves Raymond episodes and my family is amazed when I recite the lines before they're actually said by the characters.
Now, Here's the freaky part.
I find myself citing lines from movies/TV episodes where & when they'll fit into my real life conversations, for example:
During an aftercare group meeting, we all got onto the subject of denial and it seemed the perfect place to throw in one of Spock's lines from the episode "And The Children Shall Lead" where Spock says, and I quote "Humans do have an amazing capacity for believing what they choose and excluding that which is painful."
The psychologist thought it was so good, she asked me to repeat it so everyone could hear it. Thank you Mr. Spock
- It had been waiting in my memory banks for around 40 years just waiting for the perfect opportunity to come out.
I find myself quoting lines from TV shows and movies quite a lot IRL.
