Keep in mind that some posts are people venting out years or even decades of negative experiences and emotions and it can look really ugly. Don't take it personally and do it yourself if you need to.

Undo your writing training and be very literal.

I wasn't going to reply to this, but now I'm curious. why is everyone being told to stay out of the "Love & Dating" forum?

I think of all the subforums it has the most overt drama.

Even I don't venture into there very often unless I have to for moderation duties. That forum should be renamed "Fighting, blaming and hating". It is a veritable cesspool.

Darn. I was actually hoping to one day venture in there for some help.

Sorry for getting OT. I don't have any advice for new people. I still feel 'new' here myself.

The image url must end with a filename extension like .jpg .png .gif

e.g.g. 'http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules/Forums/images/avatars/172604656852e403eccdfeb.jpg'

Image

Usually threads like that are nothing but drama and I avoid drama at all costs. I HATE drama... :x

if you ever need a laugh go to love and dating.

Pick any two threads. Any.

Try to play spot the differences among the things regulars say in those threads.

Just so we are clear this is not helpfull advice.
Nevermind what thread you are on regulars will turn it to: girls have it easier/ nice guys^tm /okcupid/pua and everyone will just try to post their own personal opinion on the subject for the millionth time.

I must a really naive Aspie because I've been in the L&D forum a fair bit recently and haven't had any major issues. It would be nice if there was more diversity in topics and less PUA crap but the only (minor) problem I've ever had was in the PPR forum.

I would suggest to any new member to not worry too much. In my experience, most of the WP regulars are excellent and I have gotten some very good advice over the past couple of years. This is the only board I have ever felt like I belonged rather than be a fringe member who nobody paid attention to.

You are asking me to do the impossible!

I do find that if you must post a long post, it works better if you paragraph your thoughts out to be no more than 3 or 4 lines apiece. Even though I am guilty of writing minor novels, I can't read through other people's unless they add some breathing space.

So, you add a break and then start with the next thought.

I think an important thing to do is to assume the best in other people. Otherwise it is very easy to read things the wrong way and get your panties in a bundle when there was really no reason for the drama. Remember that people here likely have impaired communication. I find cutting others some slack and looking for points of agreement makes for better conversations and more shared knowledge.

When I can't do that, I usually stop reading the thread. I am responsible for my own posting behavior. No one else.
