I didn't find it hard to get an OT, and I found it extremely useful. Or well, my first OT didn't really know how to work with me; I was too complicated a case. She was used to simplier cases who didn't know as much about what was going on. But my second OT helped a bunch. And I'm planning on getting a third OT after I move. I also have used a PT to help with sensory issues too. OT was much more pleasant than PT.

I definitely support people using OT.

Also, if you're doing the wilbarger brushing protocol correctly, its not a nail brush; its not an expensive brush, but its a specific brush. The brush being the specific brush matters for the protocol. (I got my replacement brushes after I wore the first one out for probably $5 each)

I'm so sorry that happened to you. :( Being restrained it horrible. It only happened to me once, over 20 years ago, and I still think about it sometimes.
I'm glad you have all those services now. I figured it wasn't a ticket to an easy life or anything, but any help with quality of life is always good.

Ah, that's great! The sidebar says you're in Massachusetts, right? I'm seriously considering moving there because of how much is available by way of autism services.
What kind of things do you use the brush for? I heard that you can use it before doing something that might activate your sensory issues, and it'll actually make you react less or even not at all. Is that true?
