there are hundreds of compounds in pot that have not been sufficiently studied but are suspected of having therapeutic qualities. business and gov't need to get on the stick [thai? :P ] and study this and facilitate therapies based on pot.

The way I see it, marijuana isn't some magical cure-all for various diseases, and it isn't harmless either. That being said, it has been demonstrated to be less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, which are both widely available, and unless you're mainlining pure THC, it is pretty much impossible to overdose on it.

Do I support legalization? Absolutely. Why? It's a popular drug that people are going to keep using regardless of whether its legal or not, and when you compare the effects of it to tobacco and alcohol, the harmful effects of it are so minimal that there is really no reason to keep it illegal. Keeping it illegal only helps to support organized crime, so if marijuana were to be legalized and regulated, not only would the government be able to rake in the tax money and put it towards things like healthcare and education, but none of that money would be going towards organized crime. As well, it would make things much much much easier for people who want to look into the medicinal uses of marijuana, for treating things like cancer, autism, chronic pain, etc.

Indeed, how many people know that the main THC that they smoke is in fact delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol while analogues such as delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol and delta-7-tetrahydrocannabinol etc exist and are found naturally in cannabis though in very small amounts. Anyone who has ever taken pure compounds knows that analogues and derivatives of said compound can have very different effects and be effective in very different doses. I'd hate to be the person who mistook 5-methoxy-Alphamethyltryptamine for Alpha-Methyltryptamine. It's not a game.

I'm also getting pretty sick of it as well. I can't go anywhere without smelling it. It doesn't smell nice, either. The younger people living in my building who are about my age, give or take seem to like that stuff.

Hippies are also hanging out everywhere, smoking that stuff. I'd like to go to Dairy Queen, Tim Horton's or the library without having to smell that horrid stuff. It's pretty bad if my friends and I can't walk into the library without having to smell a whiff of that stuff.

The more I smell Pot, the more I love The Kinks.

I am pro-marijuana but don't live in a state where it is legal for any use. I would rather take marijuana than any of the psych or pain meds I have to take now, and honestly it works better for my anxiety and pain than any of the meds I take now. There are loads of legal drugs that are more dangerous than marijuana and that have worse side effects (reference the disclaimers on any prescription drug commercial today). No drug, legal or illegal, prescribed by a doc or by oneself, is good for everybody. I don't think anyone should be jumped on for having an informed opinion. Research the history of how marijuana came to be illegal, and how alcohol was re-legalized, and I think the average person would conclude having the cannabis plant be illegal is bad public policy that isn't based on rationality, logic, or fairness. Ha, there is probably a lot of public policy like that!

I'm all for getting high as much as possible whenever possible
The few conversations I have on the street are from people who recognise the smell

I find it really helps me so don't care what others think.

I smoked all the time as a teenager, got married still smoked it, had a son quit smoking all together.
got divorced and started smoking weed again, If I need to stop for a relationship then I know I can fairly easily.

I just spent 2 days watching my son and went without even a cigarette both days fairly easily just because I don't want him to grow up thinking it's okay to smoke.

I want to be a responsible parent so he will never find out

I think it's fairly clear from peer reviewed research that marijuana is far less dangerous than alcohol. What needs to be done is for it to be deregulated and grown under controlled conditions to protect consumers from contaminants. Also smoking is gross and unnecessary when you can consume it in other forms.

I'd like to see a future where it's not unusual to see marijuana cookies served with cups of herbal tea...

I support limited and responsible use of alcohol, cannabis, psychedelics, and almost any drug as long as "responsible use" is an option......

What I find deeply unfair is that some drugs like tobacco and alcohol are legal although they have a huge addiction potential and health impact, although others like psychedelics are illegal though they are completely non-addictive and globally physically innocuous. Drug policies are based on political agendas, economic pressures and the general public's fantasies, not on serious scientific research and public health goals.

I concur, that's basically where I stand on the topic.

In regards to the original post, I do smoke cannabis daily and have been doing so for many years now, I absolutely love everything about the plant and what it has to offer and I think it's ridiculous for such a thing to be illegal....but with that said, I do not like the whole "Stoner culture" surrounding the plant, which mostly consists of the younger high school crowd. I'm all for the spreading of unbiased information about the plant, but I'm also for people not glorifying the plant and being disrespectful of where they smoke.

I'm against drug abuse as well, and I think we need to approach it as the "health" issue it is and not as a criminal issue. The construct of the current drug policies here, in the US, doesn't work toward there being an ultimate free and healthy society.

I have no problem with someone wanting to alter their consciousness with a drug, recreational drug use doesn't = drug abuse. Using psychoactive plants and "drugs" is something humans have been doing for many millennia. I see it as something that's as natural as having sex. Even animals have been documented in the wild seeking out plants, fungi, or fermented fruits to alter their consciousness.....to make such a thing illegal doesn't make sense to me.

I am definitely pro-cannabis. Until I accidentally quit recently (with no adverse withdrawal effects, unlike other drugs eg tobacco, alcohol, smack etc), I'd been smoking it for approximately 20 years with little adverse effects. I found it made me more socially aware and introspective regarding my own behaviours.

The biggest selling point for me is its industrial potential in plastics, medicines, fibres, annually renewable paper source (practically grow it in a desert) etc. Hemp seed oil is apparently even healthier to eat than olive oil, loaded with good fats.

The only reason I took it up was my parents, peers and teachers would get in my face, hassling me about my dopey expressions and behaviours. Everyone was convinced I was on drugs, which was so unfair, especially considering that I was a diligent straight A student with an undiagnosed autism spectrum disorder. Because of this, I was culturally expected to become a stoner, and my autistic traits seemed to attract stoner company. I never took up weed until I had a full-time job. It helped to stimulate my already creative disposition, as well as minimising anxiety. But everyone is different, and I have seen others reacting badly on it.

The only reason I stopped is the global culture seems to be turning pro marijuana, and I hate being a conformist. I enjoying being straight, and I'm wired in a weird way anyway, so it makes little difference. And I lost contact with my supplier.

I am sorry to learn that some people are such dickheads that they would give someone grief for being critical of weed. I would never advocate a pot habit to anyone.

There's a lot of hypocrisy and bad logic that goes on in marijuana debates. Bottom line - let's keep this simple - potheads want their pot!! !! Duh. And they are obviously going to try and construct arguments for it and obviously go on the attack if they are a jerk.

I'll be clear. I do like pot and I would love to see it legalized everywhere. But I'm not going to lie and say it is completely harmless.. Most people are better off without it, although it does help some people

As I said, I do enjoy weed occasionally and totally support legalization. I personally think it is much less dangerous than alcohol (at least people who are high usually don't get aggressive and violent with anyone), it is funny and pleasant, and it has real mental health benefits in many situations.

But I can't let anyone say that smoking as much as possible and being constantly high is good. I know someone who is around 50 and has been using cannabis daily (quite heavily) for 30 years. She took it for stress relief, and from what other people told me it was quite efficient in the beginning, but it kept getting worse and worse. Now what I can see is a paranoid, agressive and globally unpleasant person, who is only bearable when she is smoking pot, and can literally go screaming and do anxiety attacks if she thinks she may not have enough weed.

I know someone else who has now completely stopped weed but was an extremely heavy user for 2-3 years, to the point that there was barely a time where he was not high. I did not know him at that time, but now he speaks about it quite often. It cost him his job, his relationship, his sanity for a moment, a stupidly high amount of money, and could have led him to a much worse state if his family were not very good and supportive people. He has not become an anti-drug activist or whatever and let people do what they want, but he is just the proof that cannabis is not always harmless and advises people to be careful.

Those are two isolated examples, and I know many more people who do enjoy weed responsibly, and who in some case are quite regular users without ill effects. I don't know what can make the situation go bad, I just know for sure that it can go bad. Cannabis is certainly not the most dangerous drug and most people can probably manage their consumption and benefit from it, but it is just wrong to say it is completely innocuous and you can't ever have any problem with it.

(Also it seems obvious but I will remind you that smoking anything is bad for the lungs and can give you cancer. That has not much to do with nicotine or cannabis ; there have been some studies trying to prove one is worse than the others etc. and cigarette manufacturers put plenty of extra sh*t in their tobacco that is not there in natural materials, but the bottom line is just that inhaling the smoke from burnt vegetal material is bad for your health.)

Why do people compare light use of marijuana with abuse (or heavy use) of other drugs?

I actually appreciate the complete lack of going to the ER with panic attacks for the past few years since I started taking Zoloft.

I also appreciate being able to sleep for 4-6 hours at a time rather than 1.5-2 hours at a time, thanks to Flexeril.

Also, pain relief for people experiencing chronic pain shouldn't be restricted to terminally ill patients. Maybe I'm just biased because I am in pain every day and function better when said pain can be treated.

Well the writings on the wall when the Pres is an Ex-Stoner... But I do wonder at how it is being legalized without much opposition by the folks that demonize tobacco.

And can anyone tell me if In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida actually means anything?
