My mom is a night shift supervisor for some group homes, and if she comes home in the middle of her shift, I'm suddenly awake and very alert.
"Mom! It's Mom!"
"I stayed in the dark living room just so I wouldn't wake you."
I've found leaving the TV on and muted and running a desk fan near my pillow helps prevent those situations.

I used to spend hours in bed trying to fall asleep, and I'd get frustrated because I knew that I would end up only getting a total of like three hours of sleep, and it wasn't great sleep. Then the next day I'd be tired and get overwhelmed and then feel guilty for crying or whatever.
Now, when I have to wake up early, I fall asleep easily but wake up just to see how long I have left to sleep. Or wake up to double check my alarm clock. Maybe I'll stay awake just to make sure the alarm goes off... It's so annoying, albeit an improvement. I think.

Do you have trouble sleeping when you know you have get up early the next morning? Or know you have a busy day the next day? I have that problem especially when people wake me up. Usually I will never get back to sleep for hours.

I have trouble sleeping on any occasion. I actually have to drug myself with sleep meds to get to sleep. However, If I have to get up before 0800, I have to have at least five alarms set. I have three on my phone that are staggered by a couple minutes, and one a bit later as an "OH CRAP I'M GOING TO BE LATE" alarm, and two other alarms that are set around our room. I then typically lay in bed and ruminate for a few hours about how nervous I am about sleeping in, which definitely doesn't help me shut down my brain for sleeping.
