I have insomnia right now. I don't deal with it, I just stay awake till I physically can't function. I wouldn't recommend doing so too often, as it isn't good for the mind.

i just have a very unusual sleep pattern. but i usually get enough sleep for me. sometimes that means an after school nap. i average anywhere from 4 to 6 hours of sleep every 24hrs which is natural for me. about twice a week i end up sleeping 8 to 9 hrs.

I fluctuate in cycles where I'll go for a few weeks where I only need 2-3 hours sleep and the next few need 4-5 hours. Then, it's back to the 2-3 hour cycle. I've been like this since I can remember.
When I was in hospital, it dropped down to 1-2 hours per night (probably because of the sedentary lifestyle). The hospital I was in required them to check on us hourly. I was famous around the hospital for the first patient they'd ever seen that went for 5 weeks straight averaging around 1 to 2 hours sleep a night. I talked to my psych and did some research on it and I think what is responsible is the Period 3 "clock gene".
