Interesting thoughts...

Curiously, I joined Jun last year. It took just 7 months to get up the courage to post.

My first WP post was on the 7th of this month, second on the 18th, third also on the 18th... then they picked up a bit. Now I'm past my 100th. If that's not exponential...

I see I'll have to type faster to get to my 1,000th. Give me a week.

-----------

I've also wondered why there are so few people on here. Members outnumbered 3 to 1 by guests, and a proportion of the members aren't AS anyway (please stay - I have no problem with you).

My point is really to say that WP probably has quite a small core of active AS members - at any given time. Lets face it - we're prone to obsessive fads (I am, anyway). So I'm averaging a dozen posts a day at the moment. Next week I may stop.

----------

But to get back to the point: why so few? World population 3 milliards (billions to you Americans), and just a few thousand on here... something tells me the membership will go up a little more. (Particularly now that all the old codgers like me are being let in on the secret!).

The fact that it's predominantly an English-speaking board would limit its international members a bit.

It would? Not to any great extent. See <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_English-speaking_population> India has the most, with 350,000,000 english speakers. If one in a thousand of them are AS....

In fact, I've felt that there seems to be quite a sizable non-US/UK percentage in membership here already. Case for a updated stat? The three already in existence seems to show 10/247 back in 2005. I'd rather think the proportion is different now.

Autism and autistic people have been increasingly in the news. Amanda Baggs (aka Ballastexistenz) was featured on cnn.com, Anderson Cooper 360 and his blog. I know it's very hard for her, with all the publicity, but she has revolutionized how the outside world sees autistic people. Or she is revolutionizing.
