I was afraid of dogs when I was little. My grandma had a small, gentle, old dog. I learned that dogs were not scary because of her. I fell in love with dogs because of a family friend's golden retriever & her puppies.
While growing up, dogs were a lifeline. I was obsessed with them. I read books, played with neighbors dogs, & babysat dogs. I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was little.
I grew up with two dogs. Leonardo (Leo) a beagle mix & Bouncy Ball (Bouncy) a cockapoo. They were my best friends, especially Bouncy. She kept me going through all the hard times. I terrorized her so much. She was so patient & tolerant. She was one month from 14 years old when she died. Leo was adventurous, patient, & tolerant. He loved to explore the outdoors. He was 12 years old when he died.
I adopted Mika, a terrier mix, in April last year. She is a 7 year old with a emotional traumatizing past. She is easily startled, wary of new situations/people, & is tolerant of other dogs. She used to be much worse. However, she is still reactive aggressive. She's gone through basic & intermediate training. To get her through each day I control her environment, desensitize her, & socialize her. Two things that have a huge impact are playing Enya & a pheromone collar. We are a lot alike. I prefer dogs & cats over humans. She prefers cats & humans over dogs. We're both wary of new situations. We both struggle socially. I have sensory issues. I'm pretty sure she does. My dad says we're two peas in a pod.
I've always wanted a cat but couldn't because my brother & I are allergic. A few months ago I discovered that I'm not allergic to some cats. I've been searching for a kitten for a few weeks. I found a few I really like including one that is my ideal kitty. Problem is I found her on Petango which isn't always up to date. So she might be already adopted. I'm waiting for a response from the cat coordinator.
