I prefer more dim light or darkness, its rather funny a lot of times people ask me if I need a light on or how I can see in such dim light when I am reading something in what to me is comfortable lighting. I also need to find a pair of sunglasses because I hate walking around when it is sunny and having to squint my eyes, but everytime I get some I either lose them, break them and they can be uncomfortable to wear.

When trying to sleep depending on where I either like really dim light or straight up darkness, for some reason in my room it makes me uncomfortable to sleep unless I have my adjustable lamp turned down really low or I might just leave my door open so light from the rest of the house comes in a bit.

When I'm inside during daytime, I usually don't have lights on inside, I like to be in the dim light that filters around the edges of the blinds. I may switch on the kitchen light to cook, or a table lamp to use my ham radio, or put on a light to read, but most of the time I have the lights off. I also like cloudy days, it's unbearable for me to be outside in bright sun and heat. When I was a kid I was even more sensitive, I didn't like the little LED indicator lights on surge protectors and some electronics to be on at night. When I was maybe 14 my parents bought me a rechargeable flashlight whose cradle had a bright red LED to signify the light was plugged in, and it drove me crazy.

^ Why do designers think that they have to put a light on every darned thing? I want to sleep in dark darkness, not that awful glow from tiny LEDs.

The best lighting is not too dim, yet not too bright.

I love the dark. I only turn lights on because my parents complain about me not doing so.

Also, sunlight makes me sleepy. It's the strangest thing.

I feel comfortable in a darker room during the colder months, because people can't see what I'm doing in the evening in the winter if they can't see into my window. I have a lamp turned on dim when I'm on the Internet. I like to sleep in a bit of a green glow, so I have the night light on my clock set on pea green.

Dimmed light like in an aquarium or a nightlight. I used to have a blue and a green lightbulb in the hallway.

Personally I find transitioning from being in a dimly lit or dark place to a bright room difficult.
I have major sensitivity to light, when I'm, for example out in the evening when it darks and then suddenly I'll go into a supermarket , then I find the shop is often brightly lit up and the transition from dark to light is extreme.

For me, I think it's more about the color of the light. Blue lights are terrible. I hate LED Christmas lights, too. I don't notice them flickering but they are just painful to look at. I know they save power but I dislike it when I see them in people's yards. Some white light is bad too.

Natural light does not bother me as much except sun in my eyes, especially at sunset. Artificial light is more likely to bother me in a place like a store. I find that red or very dark rose tinted lenses make me feel very calm in those places so I must have some sort of sensitivity to lighting. I find myself sometimes staring at the rippling halos around some white lights in church; they are kind of hypnotic.

Light from screens bothers me. Can get headaches from them and migraines.

Contrast us a problem and contrast patterns like horizontal stripes. Check prints warble and shake and I see diamond shapes in the print. White polka dots on black background. I have to be careful not to give myself a migraine by sewing on striped or checked material no matter the colors.

I fight with light. I used to prefer dim lighting. People used to ask me how I could see my work and turn on the lights trying to be helpful. :? Now I don't know. Sometimes I wrench the curtains open because I can't see. Other times I go all day without ever opening the curtains and with few lights on.

I don't like bright indoor lighting, especially overhead lighting. It makes things look weird. If I need lots of light to do something, I need sunlight, but only indirect sunlight. I like lots of diffused light coming in through the windows during the day. At night I like soft lighting, string lights, night lights or candle light. I like lamps with milk glass shades, or hurricane lamps.

Sometimes I can see better to do things in dim lighting. When I had my kitchen ceiling redone, I never had any overhead lights put back in. If I cook an hour or so before sunset, the sunlight comes in perfectly through the window. Otherwise I just use a lamp.

When I was a kid, I would read in dim light without a lamp on, and my grandfather would drive me nuts asking me if I wanted him to turn on a light for me. He was afraid I would strain my eyes. He would finally just turn the lamp on for me, and then I'd wait until he left the room and turn it off again. lol

Yes, I am sitting in the dimness right now.
Others call my office the dark room.

I walked to a place for lunch today and got rained on all the way back, it was quite nice.

I have a rare low vision disorder where I'm very sensitive to lighting conditions & see better when the light isn't bright.

I've always preferred either darkness or dimmed light. So much so that whenever possible I've worked graveyard shift as I do now and my wife frequently complains that I keep the apartment like a cave with all the blinds shut.
