Not always. You could have a small stoke and not even realize you had it. And even if a person is young there are times when it could happen. I have heard of several cases. My friend had a stroke at 18. I also have many many doctors in my family and I grew up running around hospitals and hearing all their stories. There are types of stokes that can happen that don't act like the regular strokes that we often think about. I have had one and my sibling has had more than one. They are caused by a hereditary factor and are greatly affected by your hydration levels. They run very strongly on my dad's side of the family. I did not even realize that I had had a mini stroke until I explained what happened to my dad who is a doctor and he told me all about these kinds of strokes.
