I remember in school, about grade 7 or 8, there was a kid whose desk was one row over right beside me; one day we were taking a test and he just kept sniffing & sniffing & sniffing, he obviously had a runny nose, seemed like every 7 seconds he'd sniff loud, and I kept looking over & glaring at him hoping he'd take the hint and blow his damn nose, it was driving me to distraction! I wanted to tell him that there was a lovely box of Kleenex on the teacher's desk, put there for everyone to use, and to go make use of it, but as it was a test (and you know how there's rules of absolute no talking during tests!) I was afraid I'd be the one to get in trouble for talking. Even though I couldn't concentrate because of him
What I remember I couldn't fathom at the time was how it seemed nobody else in that room looked like they were being disturbed or distracted by this
What kind of tissue, if it was the cheap, papery ones I can't say as I blame him for not using one.

Well Kleenex are usually good quality...
I'm sure even if they were cheap papery ones, using one just that one time so he's not a distraction for another student would not have been the end of the world. He could always dab on some lotion onto his poor little schnauze when he got home lol

Because it is absolute fact that blowing your nose one time if you have a cold or very stuffy nose for another reason...will stop the sniffing for the rest of the class..... Come on haven't you ever had one of those runny/stuffy noses that just doesn't stop regardless of how many times you blow it and end up with red irritated skin on your nose from blowing it too much with dry kleenex while still having to sniff to breath? Having someone glaring at you with absolute lack of consideration for the fact its unpleasant for you to certainly would not help I imagine.
Perhaps Kleenex is usually good quality for people who don't have feeling in their nose maybe....lol

I remember having a very bad cold when I was eight and I kept blowing blowing blowing and I had never ending snot and it would make me feel dizzy from all the blowing and sometimes it would hurt if I blew too hard. I hated that cold. I didn't think then to sniff back and swallow.

earphones n music arent helping either...
Some advice please?
Do you have misophonia?
I have misophonia - it is an unpleasant involuntary reflex to various everyday sounds, often "mouth or nose sounds" (sniffing, snoring, etc).
You can read about it on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misophonia
There are many Youtube videos on the subject, including: Misophonia: What is it? This video explains the difference between misophonia and other sound sensitivites.

I know that! A lifelong story of irritating noises, starting with my younger brother sniffing and breathing besides me and then my husband, or just anybody (but definitely men) very nearby will, after all the other noises they can make, breath two times as fast and four times as lound as they usually do.
Oh you can't say STOP BREATHING but sometimes ... !
But also I think it's those people who talk all the time, the moments they can't speak, while eating or being in a library, they just have to make noises as if to ensure themself they are still there ( and still claiming your attention on their presence, with makes it so irritating)
Thinking a bit more about it , it runs in the family, my grandfather was known for not supporting noises while eating, so that had stayed in the family-routines.
After that, the world outside is a wild and noisy place
There is a fable about a man who started a long journey and had no shoes. At first he was crossing meadows and walking on dirt roads and the going was easy, but then his path took him across a desert of sharp stones. The points and knife edges on the stony path cut his feet and it was impossible to go on.
"If only I had some sort of protection for my feet, something comfortable like a layer of leather" he thought to himself, and so he began to plan a way to obtain a million cow hides, so he could make a leather path across the desert...
Why didn't he just wrap his feet in leather? Take the solution with him? A pair of shoes is the practical solution, but not the one people think of first.
Men in the middle east are bothered by their sexual attraction to women and propose to conceal all women in formless bags with tiny slits for their eyes.
The point is that if you have a sensory problem, it is impractical, potentially rude and conflict-generating to try to remove the offending stimulus from the world. Noises bothering you in the library? Find another place to study. It's your problem and it won't work to try to make it the world's problem.
When I say it won't work I mean telling people not to chew or sniff or swallow or breathe noisily or whatever it is that is intolerable to you--that is probably not going to be effective.
Returning to the fable of the shoeless traveller, it's better to make a pair of shoes than cover the road with leather from end to end. In a similar way, it's better to find a place without the distracting stimulus than require others to alter their behavior to create a stimulus free environment.
When I was a student at NYU, I found the main study areas of the library distracting, but I found some carels in the stacks that were very peaceful and so I went there. There was also a room with some tables and chairs and a lovely view of Washington Square Park that few people used. I could always sit at least 20 feet from anyone. It was on an upper floor and most of the students used similar rooms on lower floors. There was also a specialty library for East Asian studies that had some utterly quiet study spaces. When things were too busy at the main library and I just needed space to study, I would head over to the East Asian library...
I don't think you will find any happiness in blaming sniffing asians for your distress. If you want to not have this be a problem, better to find solutions that you can control with modifications of your behavior rather than asking others to modify their behavior for your convenience.
Constant sniffing your bother me too. I also have Misophonia. Are you able to find a private place to study? In college I loved studying in the school art gallery because it was very rare that anyone else was ever there. I also spent a lot of time in the private practice rooms in the music school basement. Since I was a music major I needed to be there anyway but it was nice because they were as soundproof as they could be an no one would bother you there. I also loved studying in the library stacks. It was like being in a little cave. And some of the libraries had comfy chairs in the stacks as well just for that reason.
