That was such a relief for me to have found out about this! Two jobs ago (was a factory job) I left under less-than-ideal circumstances and I was petrified that they'd say I was a trouble-maker (they treated me like sh*t!) to any future potential employers who phoned them for a reference. I had a friend of mine phone their HR department pretending to be a potential employer asking about me, he was perfect, down to "I don't know how to pronounce her name, I'll spell it for you" and phoned from my city's airport hangar saying he was a mechanic hiring an assistant. He asked what type of employee I was and he said the lady he spoke with was adamant in only being able to tell him the date I was hired and the date I left - not one word more, even when he "tried" to push for more info!

SUCH A RELIEF

The place is shut down now so SCHADENFREUDE

But supervisors certainly can, do and will give a bad reference!! Getting a bad reference will kill your prospective career. Really important to be aware of this. As the OP is threatening, the resultant bad reference will be ruin any hopes for a good job in that field.

If you're working through an agency and have been contracted because they need labour for a special event that's coming to an end...then it's very likely that you will be let go fairly soon.

You'd probably be let go even if you were an ideal employee. You aren't being fired.

Doing something silly means you're likely to never get another job there and not only that but they WILL let the agency know and you're unlikely to get further work through that agency. And perhaps rightly so...
