Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne (FFA)

Those were obsessions.

Skipping class in sophmore year in high school for Warcraft 2 and junior year for Frozen Throne, for each of those games.

Daydreaming constantly about them. Not sleeping or eating just to play them. These constitute obsessions; or perhaps OCD.

There is a difference between interests and obsessions. I enjoy interests but hate obsessions.

I have just two main interests - Mineralogy and Astronomy, since a young age. They alternate in importance every year or so. I got so interested in mineral collecting that I can now identify my entire mineral collection of several thousand mineral specimens by touch behind my back! I recently gained a Ph.D. in geology and much of my thesis dealt with mineralogy. Luckily, I have an opportunity to turn my interest into a career. My other interests were...

Quantum Mechanics
Relativity Theory
Table Tennis (typically Aspie, I usually played by myself banging a ball against a wall)
Psychology (autism and everything related) I decided to do something positive with my interest, so I set up a social club for Aspies in 2002

My current interest it is photography, in particular macro photography. I want to photograph my mineral specimens.

I've got sort of a fixation with Sephiroth and similar characters with big swords, black cloaks, or silver/white hair.

It can get weird too, like Dr. Riddle from Zatch Bell, lol.

It's just, the motif EXUDES power.

Some of my interests/obsessions have been, in the past, considered to be weird 'for a girl'.

My current, lifelong obsession/interest/passion is biological sciences. I love looking at animals, how they behave and the way they adapt and live. For those living in Great Britain, who watches Meerkat Manor? I think it's great!! ! I am also fascinated by how the body (human, animal or plant) works and how disease alters its function, whether it be mental or physical. Looking at this at a molecular level is highly fascinating, especially when you realise how much influence it has on the whole organism.

Another lifelong obsession/interest/passion is listening to music. I have always wanted to actively take part in it but always been too shy. This year though, once I have a guitar, I will teach myself. I know for a fact that I will find it difficult to put down when I start.

I am currently also interested in how people who have been traumatised in one way or another in the past cope with their lives today. I am currently reading biography after biography (this is a very very recent interest). For every book I have read so far ,I have always felt some form of admiration for these people as they continue on with their lives, despite what has happened to them in the past. For example, some time ago, I read a book called 'Sickened' by Julie Gregory. It goes back to when she was a child and how her life was affected by a condition her mother had called Munchausen by proxy. Basically, her mum was obsessed with the idea that Julie was ill (when she wasn't) and so had needless tests, even operations, as her mother was determined to 'get to the bottom of it'. She has been profoundly affected by this and is hoping to save the children presently in her mother's care (her mother has been allowed to foster children!! !).

Past obsessions/interests have been the following:

Asperger's Syndrome (because I was learning about it in relation to myself)
Female serial killers - I wanted to see if there was a general pattern between all of them
Death and torture - I was disturbed by a dream I had surrounding this and I wouldn't rest until I knew about it all and what went through the minds of those that were sick enough to enjoy torturing others
Weather patterns - I wanted to learn about how, in nature, calms and storms occurred
Anger and violence - I wanted to know what motivated others to be violent
Love and the significance of marriage - whether marriage is just religious or worth it
Washing machines
Aliens and the paranormal
Dinosaurs
What motivates people to steal, kill, cheat on their partners and lie

Most were quite morbid really lol.

Music: when i like a band/performer i tend to collect everything they have (if Bob Dylan coughed into a microphone in the early-60s, i will have it on CD somewhere.)

I like movies and collect some TV-series too. ( Woody Allen, David Lynch, Larry David, to name a few.)
Same with some authors. I read everything by an author, then move on.

Maths, numbers and poker/gambling ( this is just an application of number crunching though.)

I like to watch nature programmes, but not so much an 'obsession'. Sharks and sea-creatures, snakes and spiders. Meerkats are cool, they look quite cuddly on Meerkat Manor, but there are some ferocious breeds. I saw a programme when they were in warfare with a gang of cobras; many years ago, it was quite brutal.

My fanfiction I've been writing for eight years, and the characters in it (how sad!)
Pokemon, currently, but this one comes and goes
Palaeography
Dance Dance Revolution, sports science
Symphonic metal
Spiders of the British Isles

When I watched television about 90% of my watching was animal or nature based documentaries.

You're right. Interests are something you enjoy doing, a hobby, if you pursue it more than occasionally. An obsession is when you can't control yourself. All your thoughts are devoted to a particular thing, whether it be a lamp post, a game, lining things up and organizing, etc.. Then there is OCD. Where, a person with it, will be unable to do anything else except that until the anxiety subsides.

Heavy Metal...all forms of it. Give me a band and I can tell you every album produced, the song titles in the exact order, the year released, the studio it was recorded, their producer, who it was mixed by, who they're endoresed by, etc.

Videogames. Mostly Gran Turismo 4, Forza Motorsport, Rainbow Six: Vegas, The Splinter Cell series, and anything based on WWII. Oh, and Gears of War is reaaaaalllll purrrty....

World War II in general.

Art. I'm obsessed with anything by Leonardo DaVinci and Van Gogh.

And I just got this new cell phone (which I absolutely hate phones but I was put into the position of being forced to buy one) called a KRZR or something and....out of all the gadgets and gizmos on the thing, what I'm most fascinated with? Opening and closing the phone. I have no idea why. I guess I like the way the thing lights up or something.
