Issy Stapelton
The majority of the people in my classes classify autism as a tragedy and it's better to be dead than to have it. If it's a disability they do not have, they treat you with contempt because they don't bother to ask you how you feel.

I think her actions came out of despair and desperation, not malice. And I don't think she belongs in jail.
No, she does belong in jail. If you attempt to murder another human who is defenseless and you are not doing it in self defense (which she clearly wasn't in this case), she needs to serve time.
Also, beating your kids is awful, and no parent should EVER do that, that is abuse. I honestly do not get how you can sympathize with her and NOT her daughter.
Kelli beat her daughter or are you speaking in general?
Issy was beating her mother. How can people keep missing this? If Kelli was beating her daughter, where did you get this?
Also if Issy is defenseless, Kelli wouldn't have landed in the hospital several times or have brain injuries.
Parental abuse is a real thing but sadly when you google it, very few results come up about it and child abuse results mostly pop up.
Hell they even made a movie in 2001 called Dangerous Child and the kid in it is 16 and he hits and throws stuff at his mother when he gets mad and he was not autistic. The mother of course would lie and make up a story about how her son got a cut on his arm and needed it to be stitched(he tried to punch his mother and she dodged it and his arm went through the window and cut himself with glass when it broke) or why there were things out of place in their home (the son did it while trying to attack his mother and she kept dodging) because she either didn't want her son arrested and have a criminal background or she was ashamed. But at the end the kid ends up getting help after his arrest.
What if Issy wasn't autistic and she still did all this, would we still be making this big of deal about it or find it all tragic and sad and feel sorry for the mother? I sense people would still be in uproar and there would be less people sympathizing with the mother simply because people do not think parental abuse is real (and the fact Issy wouldn't be autistic) just like how people do not believe how men can be victims of domestic violence or moms who can't protect their kids from abuse due to the abuse they suffer themselves from the abuser.
The only person I heard sustaining any brain damage is Issy.

What I'm wondering though, is if the mother was becoming unable to care for Issy due to her violent outbursts, then why not put her into a care home, or if she can't afford it, give her up to the state? Issy would be with caretakers who know how to deal with violent patients, and Kelli would never have reached the point where she was thinking about killing her.

I don't know if this was true or not but I was reading on the Dr. Phil page at Facebook when that show aired was Matt was the reason why Issy wasn't in some home. I thought why didn't Kelli just pack her bags and leave with Ainsley and her son? Did she have anywhere to go? She did have a degree so I am sure she could have gotten work somewhere. I agree there were other options than killing her daughter. I do think that was why she was doing her blog and she did that video of her being beaten as a cry for help s she get more support. Matt's family says this was all for attention and I am thinking "Of course so everyone can see how serious this all is and how a child can really hurt their parent." I don't think it was done for fame or as in 'Oh look at me people, I am so proud to be getting bused by my daughter, feel sorry for me please" like her husband's family made it out to be.
I am also wondering why didn't the brother defend their mother when Issy was beating her. He could fend for himself so why not fend for his mother? I am also thinking if she ever took defense classes so she could learn to defend herself like my mom did when she worked at a school when I was in 6th grade and this autistic child would always attack her and he was six. My mom was able to restrain me at age 15 despite being a couple inches taller than her with the help from my little brother who was almost my size then and she told me she knows how to defend herself because she took classes for it. But after that incident, I was put on some anti anxiety pills.

It was in the article the OP posted about how Kelly was affected with her head injury and it was also mentioned on the Dr. Phil show by Kelli's doctor who appeared on it too in the audience and I had read it several times in other places she had one. It was also in her blog when she showed the part of her being on the hospital bed when Issy knocked her on conscious.

I wonder if Kelli is an Aspie? There are a few things that struck me. Despite the redneck, hick mom she is portrayed as the women worked as scientist/molecular biologist. She is described as never really liked, manipulative narcissistic. Where have we heard this before? We can never really know, she could be described that way because she is narcissistic and manipulative. If she was professionally diagnosed would the community react differently?
What haunts me is that Kelli described the ABA as feeling wrong and unnatural but she did not stop doing that to her daughter. That raises the obvious question did Issy attack as retaliation? As far as I know we have not actually heard Issy tell her side of the story. Just people speaking for her. What else is new? Not that she has an obligation to tell us. It is probably best that she doesn't. There has been to much running to the media anyway. Without Issy's side you can't come to a final opinion. Right now I have trouble sympathizing with anybody except the siblings.
