My sister picks up the phone and pretends that our residence is another business like "Marvin's Mortuary, this is Dena speaking!"
i know someone who did that, dick's mortuary, you kill 'em we chill 'em the guy who did or does this, the wood shop teacher from high school and was said during class too when phone rang in class.
another was school pizzaria, may i take your order??
My favorite answer was "This is Richies Taxidermy: You snuff 'em we stuff 'em."
Ever since I got rid of my land line and got a cell-phone I have not received one call from
a telemarketer. Sometimes spam and adware gets through my computer's
firewall. That I find extremely annoying!!
lol thats another good one to scare them off, i hate when telemarketers get acess to cell phone numbers, because the person who picks up gets charged for that stupid and annoying sales call, what id do if i had a cell phone and that happend is "if you call again i will charge you for this call, you called a cell phone and cell phones arent suppose to be called by telemarketer or even be on your list for one thing!!"
with firewalls, if it comes in the ports that are open such as used for http and html and ssl it will go through, there is ways you can close ports but its not recommended unless you know exactly what is wrong and what port it is. when i had norton symantec software, there was a time when it wouldnt let me on aol (when i had it) and was only able to connect if i had norton either turned off or live update or protection off found out later it was one of the ports was disabled that aol needed it was soemthing havign to do with ACS (aol connectivity services (i had dialup) i later then fixed it and worked just fine (after no help from aol or symantec tech support)
i now use yahoo's CA(aka etrust) and whats good about that is soon CA will be moving office near me so id be good, if i needed advanced help i could call local and not be charged for help or get some brainless untrained tech. (no offense to any call center employees that use wp)
there are also seperate programs that can protect you from adaware and spyware and spam,
for spam, dont reply to the messages, if it looks legit, manually type the address into browser (such as if ones from ebay or paypal)
spyware/adaware, try adjusting your security level in browser higher (not sure for mac and linux) but with windows its adjusted in internet explorer properties, raise slider to medium high and also downlaod spybot s-d, adaware se, A2(A SQUARED) also delete temprpary internet files and cookies, its advised that you run antivirus and apy/adaware programs ONCE A WEEK as well as deleting the temp stuff,
richie, what antivirus do you use???
good luck and dont get scammed
sorry if this sounded like another troubleshooter, just trying to help richie
