I am only a mild level one ASD - but as I kid I remember being directly asked if I was mentally ret*d and in some cases they were not even being intentionally insulting. As a younger adult I had numerous experiences of people thinking I was sub-normal intelligence. Then I discovered other people viewed me as quite gifted and intellectual. I can only think that it was the social awkwardness, nervousness, sometimes clumsiness and when I was younger my lack of eye contact that had some very judgmental people thinking that. People can make completely ridiculous judgments and assumptions with no rational basis whatsoever. These kind of judgments are no more reasonable than someone assuming someone else is less bright because of what race they happen to be.

The youtube comment section seems to be a haven for trollish sociopaths.

Does having Aspergers make me a 'ret*d", or mean I have a 'metal retardation??
I've been noticing that a lot of people in the comment sections on Youtube and other sites are saying things like 'thats so f*****g autistic" or "thats autistic as f**k"
It makes me feel like a ret*d, especially as my brother and dad also have the same condition..

By definition... yes you are in some ways. However, 'ret*d' is used as an insult in many (most?) contexts... so I wouldn't take it too seriously.

Being under the influence in social situations, you lose control, mood swings, poor judgement. That's for being drunk, not sure about trees.

It's nothing like alcohol really haven't lost control or had poor judgement because of it, seems to help judgement sometimes...though I do drink sometimes, have had poor judgement and lost some control being drunk though even then am not going to go around talking crap on people with disorders and disabilities.

Just don't see how someone using 'autistic' or ret*d as an insult points to 'most of them are smoking trees or dabs'. Not saying no one who indulges in that ever does that, but such people do not represent the majority of tree smokers lol.

Hey. Smoke it if you got it. It is the terminology I am referring to. Smoking a trees, is not actually smoking a tree. The same people who say "that is soo autistic", really doesn't have anything to do with it. It is not literal. They may not even know what it is? "that is soo stupid, you're ret*d". Same thing. Heard it alot. It's not real. it may make them feel smart just to say it too. Sometimes it is humor to them.

How about a psychopath calling you crazy? No, sorry, there is no medical terminology for the word crazy, but a psychopath will use the word like it is an essential part of his language skills or something. It makes the psycho "feel" like he is not. It may also make you belive that you are so he can be advantaged in some way.

It is a weird world made of non literal words.

Sorry for being me.

I know you don't mean literal trees...just didn't see how smoking was associated with throwing around the term ret*d is all. Of course when people use the term autism in that manner they much of the time probably have no real idea of what it really means and so its not necessarily literal.

Also, I cannot say I am not a little bit mental...so if a psychopath called me that not sure it would be entirely inaccurate, but why would it necessarily be a psychopath, a normal person could call me that. If they want to do horrible things because they think I'm crazy then it would bother me because that's intimidating, but if someone finds me intresting because of my mental state and aren't judging I really don't care.

Why be sorry for being you, what good does that do?

I am taking words out of context. That is all. I am using slang. That is what it is. Most people who say those things are not literal. If they were, they would call it what it is. It is marijuana, and a silly boy. Not trees, and autistic, or ret*d.

I'm sorry for being me. It does good because it is apologetic. I am sorry for being me all the time. Sometimes it makes me feel bad. Sometimes other people feel bad, because I'm me. It makes me sorry.

I have to say I've never seen a comment such as the OP described on a you tube video. This is possibly because I don't usually read the comments or because the type of videos I watch don't warrant those kind of responses. Can anyone give an example of a you tube video with 'autistic' comments?

do you think you're ret*d? i think you can answer this question for yourself.
don't pay any mind to the scum that make those comments though, it's just that autistic is the cool word to use derogatively nowadays, which anyone knowledgeable in the area knows is not only inappropriate but ridiculous and nonsensical.

it's not fair to judge yourself based on the comments section of anything, the internet regards it as a black hole for the worst things man kind can possibly utter without any regard to facts or empathy towards others.

either way, autism =/= retardation, or anything close to it.

No.

Severe autism can generate the appearance of mental retardation...but really, if you were in a situation in which your mind were trying to strangle itself to death, you would have trouble concentrating, too.

People with AS are often ridiculed because they can be socially "clueless," which does get some of us into ridiculous situations. That's why we see therapists in hopes that somebody can decode this mad, mad society of ours.

However, the problem is often because we think of things too much in rational terms, not enough in "gut feelings" and things like that. We over-value formal logic, as a natural compulsion, not as something we just "decide" to do.

To some extent, we can train ourselves to develop a more trusting relationship with our instincts. An Aspie who can succeed in this can become a very powerful person.

But no, being ASD does not have anything to do with your level of intelligence. And really, if enough people know about ASD that stupid punks are saying stuff like what you describe, then at least that shows we've succeeded in building social consciousness of ASD.

Some people have to mock everything. It's them, just them.
