I think they accurately represent the public's view of Autism.

Though to be fair it was founded by Bob and Suzan Wright, who's grandson was born with Autism.
Many of the people who serve the organization have family member who suffer from Autism.

The Wrights have invested large amounts of their vast wealth into the organization and they have the business contacts.

Though society does hold the believe that people with disabilities need to be fixed and cured.

I believe they should reform themselves in some fashion...

Maybe we should form our own organization instead of complaining?

Those two aren't mutually exclusive. I'm not starting my own organization, but I am a dues-paying member of the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (http://autisticadvocacy.org) and that's where's my Amazon Smiles donations go.

You don't necessarily have to start your own organization.

Though if one more person in real life hears me talk about Autism/AS, I feel I'll get ran out of town.

If the autistic community spent as much time spreading the word or expressing discontent publicly as gays, women, minorities, and others do, then we'd probably see some positive traction.

Maybe it's time we took to the streets and rioted like everyone else.

I like this guy, he's got balls.

Is there an entity that you guys prefer instead of Autism Speaks?
