Really auntblabby? How? As soon as you have trouble and need help, suddenly they're not around. Fair-weather friends. That's what people are!

Embodying Occam's Razor is not at all a bad way to live. I used to drink quite a lot and I've no serious regrets, I laughed my ass off. Woohoo! Vodka! :drunken: Did anyone bring some Luksosowa to this thread? Other people are the only ones who look down on me for that, and I couldn't care less what they think. They're blithely supporting a doomed empire anyway. I'm a dirty hippie who loves danger and nobody who obeys gravity can take that away from me.

Are you a rock climber?

William of Occam was an idiot. He accidentally burned down his house with all his notes still inside and then forgot what he'd written. I wonder what the simplest explanation for that was? He WAS a fool! Up himself too!

IMHO, fair weather friends are NOT friends but instead are mere acquaintances. a REAL friend is THERE for YOU. and if one is a real friend to another person, then one is THERE for that person.

Well if that's the case, then I've never had a real friend. Only acquaintances. :(

real friends can be very hard to find. the most readily reliable way to find one, is to BE one, I have found.

But I'm never anything but what I am. You see me at home, you've seen me at work. I never change. I don't wear masks. I'm a genuine person but I just don't seem to attract people. Not that I want them but what's wrong with me? As I've said many times in the past, I don't want to be had. I just want to be wanted. I'm feeling very left out of this life!

I'm a genuine [but less than attractive] person also and have been mostly hermitted most of my life. but I don't stop trying to be kind to people even if they don't get it for the most part. i keep trying to behave towards other people the same way i would have them behave towards me. nothing beats the golden rule. I won't stop until my body is pushing up daisies in the ground. that way, I can never be accused of not trying hard enough.

"Do to others as you would have them do to you."

I agree whole heartedly - it's just a pity others don't!

You're not unattractive. You have a very nice, kind face. I can still see the top you were wearing in that photo you took of yourself (and your wonderful camera - the Nikon). Nice colours! Nothing wrong with your looks. On the other hand, I think I look like Godzilla's a$$hole but that doesn't matter to me anymore because I'm done wanting to find a new 'significant other'. I'm quite happy with hermit status now. I'm quite enjoying the quiet solitude I've experienced since living alone and getting over the depression of my relationship of 22 years and one daughter later breaking up.

My mum is very social and very NT. When we met up yesterday, I had to take clonazepam beforehand just to get through it. And when I was with her, she was chatting non-stop so I used the trick my support worker taught me: "hmm, yes, really? Oh that's interesting. Oh ok. Cool. Yeah I agree." etc.

I enjoy my own company too but sometimes it's nice to have a friend around to play some games or go watch a movie. Unfortunately those are the only two things that i like to do with someone else and i also hate small talk so it's rare for me to have someone that i can call a friend and that is willing to do those things with me.
But i agree with Auntblabby here, real friends are rare to find.

I liked being alone until my depression got worse.

I wish I could live alone, but single bedroom apartments are expensive

I sometimes fantasize running away from civilization and just living alone in the wilderness, not that there's much if any of it really left.

single wide mobiles on their own little plot of land are still relatively affordable if you are willing to live WAY OUT in the sticks. that is what I do. but it can get a bit scary out here, it is darker than sin [limited if any street lighting] and lots of critters going bump in the night.

Yeah that's what I figure I might do realistically in another 10 years when I'm 30 and nothing in the way of strong relationships have panned out.

I enjoy my time alone but I also enjoy being around family and friends
