I'm not afraid of motorcycle sounds because I'm very used to it. Both my parents are riding them before I was born.

The only way that an engine's sound scares me if it sounds too distant, too fast like running over 60 km/ph, and while I'm crossing the road just after looking left and right, and still no vehicles on my sight.

I don't like motorcycles much, unless they are quiet. In fact I don't like any vehicle with a loud engine. Buses have a different sort of sound what I can bear, but sometimes when a bus has been sitting for a while with it's engine running, some suddenly burst out a sharp hissing noise without warning, which hurts my ears as well as makes me jump.

I hate sports cars with a loud engine too. Some people love the look of those fancy cars so much that they don't seem to even hear the loud sound of the engine. Ok they may look nice but I cannot stand the noise. GIve me a quiet car any day.

I'm not afraid of them, but that doesn't mean I like them.

Like any loud noise, it startles me if I am not expecting it.
Other than that, I am not afraid of motorcycle sounds. I do find them to be unbearably loud though.

There are other sounds that make me feel afraid. Most notably chainsaws, though that is mainly because they remind me of the chainsaw ganados from Resident Evil 4.

Sort of... it usually makes me feel that "fight or flight" instinct. I feel fear for a split second, and then I end up feeling like I literally want to attack the motorcycle. Same for other similarly loud noises.

It especially sucks while I'm driving, because someone will drive past with a super loud engine (not necessarily even a motorcycle) and I start to feel like I'm going to die or something. One time a guy did this, passing me on a highway with a solid yellow line while it was dark out, speeding at least 30 mph over the limit (I was 15 over and he came up on me extremely quickly). The combination of being temporarily blinded by his lights and freaked out by his engine, I seriously almost side-swiped him (intentionally). Freaking jerk.

I always seem to get the "fight" response to things that frighten me.

Yes! If it's near enough to me, I might start screaming. If it's passing me on the road while I'm in the car, I will get very, very annoyed with it.

Does anyone hate the sound of trains? There's a track near my dorm and even though it's not loud, it bothers the crap out of me. So much so that if it goes on long enough, I might meltdown.

That's exactly what I mean! For me, my heart goes up and sometimes I feel nauseous with sudden panic.

That's just how it is for me. I feel fear and great hostility toward the source of a loud noise, especially when it startles me. I can't stand that.

Like most people here, only loud and startling noises bother me. Some motorcycles are like that, but being that I come from an auto-oriented family who own several vintage and contemporary bikes which aren't that loud, I can't say I'm afraid of motorcycle sounds in general.

I would not say I am afraid of them on a conscious logical level, but on a deeper level I find them very grating and obnoxious, I live in a place full of bikers in my town and some days during the summer months the bike sounds plus the sound of trains going by can cause me to melt down on a bad day.

Motorcycle engines scare the wits out of me. I have a feeling like I'm jumping out of my skin.

Bikes aren't as loud when you're on them. :)

I find some sounds painful, but never scary so I had to go with 'no'

I am also terrified of motorcycle sounds. I don’t like loud noises, but motorcycle sounds make want to crawl in a dark corner and scream. I can’t avoid crying when I hear a rumbling motorcycle engine. A couple of days ago someone parked a motorcycle in front of my apartment and I could not sleep thinking when it would sound.

I'm generally fine with motorcycles and noisy vehicles. Sometimes, it has been mine. A distant freeway sound can even be a bit soothing, like a brook or a breeze in the trees with birds, where silence would be ominous. It was chainsaws that began my PTSD, and construction equipment that exacerbated it. Half the problem is the idiot beepers they still use when backing up, even on a residential street in the middle of the night, on an all-night dig. These days, they should use cameras.
Various motorcyclists will sometimes quote "Loud pipes save lives." People who are looking for cars before turning will sometimes be quite blind to a motorcycle. That's how Duane Allman died. When you hear a motorbike in traffic, it is a suggestion that you not make any sudden moves until it passes. Our apologies to all other ears. May it drown out an angry human shouting.
