Is being called a genius a complement or an insult.

If it was meant as a compliment it'd have included some explanation, e.g. "I just visited my genius brother. He's working on his second book." Instead, the terseness of it leads me to believe it's a back-handed compliment. He might think you're smart, but he also thinks you lack common sense, or have poor social skills, or he thinks your lifestyle is ridiculous (implying you're not so smart in everything), etc. Aspies are often uneven in intelligence, and NTs pick up on it.

the other users appear to be attempting to understand you

you should realize that your knowledge of yourself and your brother is very extensive and our knowledge of you both is very limited

pls dont fault us if we dont quite understand....we are trying

Difficulties understanding the subtleties of language, and the contexts of given situations is common with Aspergers. Through life experience e.g., becoming "older and wiser" more often than not, situations are correctly interpreted.

Depends on the context and how it's said. Here, I have no idea. The real question is, do you think your brother would insult in a place where you could read what he said? I don't know what your relationship with your brother is like.

All I know is that I'd rather be called a genus than the "R"-word.
