I grew up in upstate New York and Western Pennsylvania and I also lived in California for nine years and in Boston for one year - But I never really felt natural living in the U.S. mainland. I have lived in Europe, the Middle East, the Philippines and now on an Island that is part of a U.S. Territory in the Pacific. I certainly feel more natural - not on the U.S. mainland.

Every time we visited my grandparents in Portland Oregon. I felt like that's where I belonged. A few moths ago we moved to the Seattle area. I feel very much at home here, like this is totally where I belong. I never felt like I belonged where I lived my whole life.

No, I've never been anywhere and had this feeling.

When I went to England for the first time, I felt a real urge to just move there. I even went to the Job Centre to find out about employment availability! I looked in the ads for the prices of apartments (flats) My wife thought I was crazy.

That's the exact impression I got from British Colombia. I'm still considering looking for work up there if my stateside life goes south after all my unfinished business wraps up. Dual citizenship would be cool, their mountains are incredible, the people friendly (or at least interesting) and they let folks import whatever cars they like. On top of all that one can learn 5+ languages just from the highway signs!

Norway & Sweden are also high priorities...

I would say southeast Alaska (Juneau, Ketchikan, Sikta) would fill your bill, too. It's very "fjordy" there. The only trouble: it's somewhat isolated; there are some places which are only accessible by plane.

I like northern Vancouver Island, too.
