I HATE ASMR!
Thanks for responses- I'd heard ASMR is more common in autistic people, which is part of why I asked here. I will look into auditory synesthesia- I assumed it was ASMR because certain other things trigger a similar but milder sensation that is pleasant, and the description of ASMR sounded very similar to what I experienced (tingling starting at crown of head and going up and down face-spine-body) except way too intense and unpleasant causing freak outs.
Also, although those tape decks sound cool, I'm sorry you were tormented by them! I would thump my brother, but he is a foot taller than me and a lot stronger so he can hold me while standing out of my arm reach, and if I do land a hit he doesn't hesitate to hit back. :/ Mostly we get along tho!

I FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN'T STAND TELEVISION
I can't handle modern TV programs and ads because the audio is so highly compressed (everything's LOUD, with not much dynamic/variation in volume,) and equalized to accentuate sibilance/plosives ('sss' and 'puh') so as to grab the viewer's attention. Naturally, most people really aren't concerned about that kind of thing, but I find that it makes me want to punch babies. Not literally, but you get the point.
The Australian Open is on at the moment and the break room at work has been filled with the horribly intrusive sounds of tennis every day *POP!! ! HEEL SQUEAK! HEEL SQUEAK! POP!! ! HHHHEEEEEL... SQUEAK!... OUT!!... *crowd noises*
*ahem*
I get the same reaction from those videos. It makes the front/top of my brain feel like it's got an electrical current running through it. Noped out of one of them after a minute. I feel your pain, OP
EDIT: Because I originally typed 'I feel your brain, OP' and thought that might be seen as a little odd

I had never heard of ASMR before, but I'm 21 minutes into the 4-hour tingle fest video and I'm close to being in ecstatic frenzy.

Yuck I can't stand bleeping cash registers. Just.no no no. And fluorescent lights are annoying. Basically any white noise that is repetitive, if that is all I can hear. I detest them. Although I like to hear bagpipes, which is surprising seeing as they have a drone that just plays a constant B-flat, which is the same pitch as fluorescent lightbulbs and every other annoying sound in the universe. I prefer them with other instruments, though, so it covers up that dang drone.

I'd never even heard of ASMR before so I looked it up on Wiki. And I must say I that love it! I never knew until now that there was a name for that strange but very pleasant tingling I get when I hear music I really enjoy. But I don't get why you don't find it pleasant like you're supposed to.
15. 35:13 Thinking Sounds (Mouth Clicking)
Omgoddess the thinking sounds are wonderful! I had to turn it off early because I was becoming overstimulated.
The sounds of ASMR clips sometimes make me feel uneasy rather than relaxed, especially the videos with whispering up close. I'm okay with the sound of whispering, rustling and tapping in real life, but, on a video, it's a bit daunting. It just sounds unnatural and too 'soft' to me.
But after saying that, I've always loved the sound of water splashing, and 'pop' sounds; although I don't get a tingling feeling in my scalp, I find the sounds pleasant. If I have a glue stick I could spend ages taking the lid off in such a way it makes a nice pop sound.

The waters of the port were choppy. After I set off, there was a long, massive storm.
Years later, however, the sea calmed. I'm still on tranquil sea, but I'll never reach the Neurotypical Beach.
None of those typical triggers work for me. Mine are more conceptual. Basically it's triggered by people's kindness, care and patience. When it's triggered it feels great, like comfort and love. Unfortunately mine has never been triggered by any family or friends. Only from strangers. Although strangely sometimes I get it when I play video games slaughtering enemies.

They have videos for that! Have you looked at any of the roleplaying ASMR videos, like the ones where they pretend to give you a haircut or a facial?
This song does it for me, although not in the typical way of ASMR.

This is exactly what I did. I watched tiny excerpts of different videos, but I just couldn't get past the girl's whispering. I hate whispering.
I listened to some of the video listed earlier in the thread. I couldn't bear any of the noises.
My friend brought ASMR up in conversation a couple of days ago, we had a good conversation about it and both agreed that organic sounds such as fires crackling, ocean, wind in the trees etc are beautiful, but neither of us can handle the whispering etc... Interesting phenomenon this!
I have to say, sometimes I get the desired response when I'm recording through a good-quality microphone through headphones- the bright sounds of things like my breathing, paper moving, my chair squeaking etc. are rather pleasant.

my sister makes ASMR videos and puts them on youtube. (and poor me has to cut the videos and such)
I neither like or hate ASMR. But i don't like to do the sound-technician for my sister for sure.
I also made the ASMR microphone myself. I made silicone ears by casting my father's ears and attached them to professional condensator microphones. They are better than the real deal (those of you who hate ASMR would hate my mic way more )

Possibly Aspie (diagnosed by an autism expert, doc moves abroad, forced to change docs and all say it's schizophrenia NOS or schizo-affective disorde or personality disorders. initial doc was a colleague of uncle Simon btw. you do the math.). (edit: by Uncle Simon I mean Simon Baron Cohen. Just to clear things up.)
