That is one thing I have never understood-how can Music TeleVision play no music? That would be like CNN never reporting news (some might say they already don't).

Which ones? I did the Philadelphia Marathon in 1997 (3 hours 45 minutes) and the Quad Cities Marathon in 1998 (3 hours 59 minutes 56 second). Would love to be able to do another one but I am not sure my body would handle the training for another one. Getting old is tough.

Not at all. There are a couple of actors I follow (though vaguely), but they're not tremendously "popular". For the most part, I tend to steer clear of pop culture and almost anything relating to it. I don't watch TV, don't like sports. I only actually even had a cell phone to text for a couple months and even then it was mostly just to coordinate rides with people.

I like movies, but I'm really picky. I've seen almost none of the "classics" or whatever you call them that most people seem to be expected to have seen.

I guess the exception is that I do use Facebook rather frequently, but I only talk to a couple of people.

I don't even own a mobile phone so no texting for me.

As for film and TV I just watch what interests me, not what is popular. And seeing morons in unreality shows has no appeal at all. Who'd want to sit and watch society slowly die?

There's a lot of things kids on my teen forum talk about that I'm not into. My fields of interest and entertainment is pretty narrow.

That's not weird, I'm like that. I also don't care very much about what's happening around me in society and those things. Like I wouldn't even notice news about a house or shop nearby burned or something.

I have no interest in sports, most TV programmes, and most celebrities (only very few). I don't have a very good memory for these things, and I have so much else to remember that I haven't got time to remember what some rich celebrity is doing. I like to watch game shows, I find those quite relaxing and entertaining, but I don't watch shows like X-Factor or Strictly Come Dancing or Brit's Awards or any of those things. There is nothing but cheering, and women dressed up in little glittery dresses, and young men what I'm expected to be attracted to (they are so not my type!!), and Simon Cowell. I'm not a big fan of him either. Oh, or Ant and Dec. No way!!

And then you go into work and people start talking about it. ''Oh I wonder who will win on the X-Factor?''

Not. Interested.

I'm pretty much the same as you. I don't have a mobile phone, I don't use Facebook, I couldn't care for anything related to celebrities. In fact I am almost exactly like you. I also hate sport except chess, darts, snooker and running.

I hate consumerism. I hate the 9 to 5 culture. Work, sleep, bills, work, sleep, bills. I hate the way society has ended up and the way "popular" culture has ended up. I see people watching TV or playing candy crush, and I think jeez you could be reading a book and learning so much right now.

I hate to see the next generation.

My family doesn't have cable, so I don't watch a lot of TV. I probably would like reality TV if I watched it, though, because I'm interested in competitions and scores and such.

I can enjoy reading celebrity gossip, but always in a guilty-pleasure, "this is so stupid" kind of way.

I don't have a phone, so I don't text. I do have Facebook, which I used to spend a lot of time on, but not so much anymore.

I like pop music, though I generally prefer the kind with more depth and emotion than the kind all about partying, sex and drugs.

I don't often sit down and watch a sports game, but I do have a favourite hockey team. I like major sporting events like the Olympics and the World Cup.

In general, no matter how much I try to be, I'm not too cynical about pop culture. My default is to like things, and I have at least a vague interest in most aspects of it.

I text because it's convenient - especially for communicating with my deaf friends, or with people who are at work and can't answer phone calls.

But otherwise I'm not really into any of the things you listed. Celebrity stuff? lol no. TV? I watch a bit of it here and there as background noise while I'm online reading something, but at 32 years old I've never owned a TV of my own and have no plans of buying one. Sports? I'm into getting outside and doing stuff (going to do the Tough Mudder again in Whistler this year, and looking forward to Kiteboarding season) but I couldn't care less about professional sports teams as I don't follow any of them. Magazines and gossip and all that crap? Meh, no thanks. I'd rather spend my time reading/learning/doing something constructive.

I don't know, but I'd be happy to meet anyone who can keep their smartphone away for an hour.

Reality TV is rarely, very rarely, about scores and the actual competitions. What it usually is, is an excuse to show lots of "drama"; AKA, people arguing and screaming at each other. Every other aspect is barely there compared to this sort of thing.

I miss actual game shows, where the competition and scoring and whatever were the ENTIRE focus.... reality shows usually feel like a half-assed version of those.

I've always hated sports since I was little. None of them have ever held any interest for me. Not one. This used to get me teased back before 7th grade or so.

I think, with the rise of Netflix and ¨high-quality¨ cable dramas with actual plotlines rather than just a bunch of disconnected episodes, the demand for cheap reality TV and sitcoms is decreasing. If anything, most thinking people avoid the former and demand more from the latter. Just my theory.

I, personally, don't watch much television other than ¨Jeopardy!¨, but my mom binge-watches a lot of shows on her iPad, so I know a good deal about them.

I don't watch TV, and I haven't liked any popular music since I was a kid in the 80s.

However I do have an interest in popular culture, however repulsive it may be, because I believe the entertainment industry is controlled by intelligence agencies and occult groups. I follow sites like vigilantcitizen.com for commentary on that.

'Popular culture' is a contradiction in terms.

So I agree with the OP.

For me, it's not disinterest in pop culture... I feel like a lot of people just like what's put I front of them because other people like it and folks feel like they have to also.

I like what I like. If it's considered "pop culture" , so be it.

I do feel like I'm operating on a serious pop culture lag, though... I'm only just hearing about this stupid blue/black dress nonsense, for instance!
